Too bad McLemore didn't get the chance to attempt the 720 dunk that he was planning on doing. I think many of the contestants thought there was going to be another round. Worst dunk contest in recent memory.
the team format is absolute nonsense. its such a contrived rivalry and it adds absolutely nothing. Why would the league that hypes up individual performance more than almost any other team sport come up with this? give the dunk contestants more dunks. that was just bad.
The only event I was looking forward to tonight was the three point contest. Even then it wasn't as impressive. Why doesn't the NBA have a court for the participants to practice on before coming onto the court? I'd rather see shots made vs airballs any day. I've given up on the dunk contest, but I agree just as it was getting interesting the contest is over. Don't think the judges need to explain their scores either, I could care less about the explanation. Show the scores and move on, wtf was Nick Cannon trying to do? Stall for time? At one point I remember him telling the judges to show the WEST/EAST choices even though the judge had revealed their choices.
What disappoints me most is that the field of Dunkers was actually good this year. If they did the old format with these players, I would have been satisfied
How do I apply for a position over at NBA headquarters? I could think of better ideas than what they did this year. "Give the people what they wannttttt" *Jalen Rose singing voice*
Don't watch it. I only watch the All Star Game and Rising Stars Challenge, the rest is the same ol' same ol' every year. There are only so many dunks you can do.
Late last night, ESPN showed the 2012 NCAA dunk contest <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/WkHqJqTm9Ns" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I've never seen a second attempt (or later) take down the house. All momentum is lost after the first try. Wall's dunk wasn't even the most difficult of the night, but he nailed it first try. Also, he threw it down like he was mad at it, not like he was relieved that he was able to pull it off after missing. I say go back to the original format, but make the field bigger, and give them only one attempt per round. If they miss, they're eliminated. I appreciate the stars participating, but I want to see the guys with the sickest hops in the contest too, regardless of if they're on a max contract or out of the rotation. With a bigger field that's mixed, if you have a Gerald Green dethrone a LeBron James, it adds the underdog component to the contest, and also makes you want to watch the Gerald Greens of the world to see if they're going to pull something in game, which otherwise might not even be on your radar.
they actually changed it for those guys that hate to see athletes trying and trying, wasting away time.
I like the idea of the street ballers, but I have a feeling the NBA would never do it, because they want to showcase the league, and it makes the league look bad if an NBA player doesn't win. Also like the "one dunker per team" idea; kind of goes along with the "open up the field" thing I was saying. Don't quite follow the drawing thing. Definitely like your sound solutions to the crowd reactions. The props are killin me, though.
Good point; I thought we'd seen just about everything like you used to. Great video to prove your point.
When the crowds multiple years in a row arent into it anymore, it tells you one thing. Very few normal people give a crap about dunks. You diehard sports fans may love em, but the normal fans who go to these events don't see the point anymore. Trash it permanently is my say....along with the Skills challenge that nobody actually tries on.
And they showcase players like Bellinelli, Trey Burke for fair weather fans who might not know those guys because all they know are Kobe, Durant and Lebron.
I didn't mind the group dunks. If the contestants had been more creative they could of shown some new things. Obviously though there needs to be a head to head battle to determine a definitive winner at some point.
This year's Dunk Contest is a joke. The format is so lame. Wall should not be a Champion for doing just one great dunk. Also i don't think it's THAT great...McLemore's dunk is great too. I don't think there is much creativity in Wall's dunk. You have a ball that is sitting there and all he got to do is take it and dunk reverse....it shouldn't be that hard for a dunker. There should be more dunks involved. To crown him a Champion must be a joke..i was like wtf...that's it? They better bring back the normal format or this shyt is not going well w/ the public. Also, they need to let the judge know that just because they did the difficult dunk, doesn't mean it's always a high score....the most important thing is HOW POWERFUL IS THE DUNK...they never seem to care about that. Some of the dunks are lame in that ...sure they're creative and difficult but when they start dunking it...there is not much power behind that dunk....and therefore...the scores should reflect that. They better bring back the 1-10 scoring system...the format that they had last night is garbage
