Can someone name me a player yao's size (or around his size) that has a career average in rebounding higher then yao? Yao has never avg below 8.2 rebounds for his career, and has a career avg of 9.2 rebounds. I think Yao has done well for his career at his size.

Rik Smits - highest rebound ag for a year was 7.7 and he averaged 6.1 for his career.

Shawn Bradley - highest rebound avg for a year was 8.8, and he averaged 6.3 for his career.

Gheorge Muresan - averaged 9.6 one season but averaged 6.4 for his short career

manute bol - highest rebound avg was 6.0 his rookie season but agv 4.2 for his career.

There just haven't been a lot of players with Yao's size. In NBA history, here are all the players who were at least 7'4 and played at least 2000 career minutes, ordered by their career rebounding percentage:

    Code:
    [B]
Rk Player Ht From To G MP TRB%[/B]
    1 Gheorghe Muresan 7-7 1994 2000 307 6729 17.0
    2 Yao Ming 7-6 2003 2009 430 14022 16.3
    3 Ralph Sampson 7-4 1984 1992 456 13591 16.0
    4 Shawn Bradley 7-5 1994 2005 832 19531 15.0
    5 Rik Smits 7-4 1989 2000 867 23100 13.3
    6 Manute Bol 7-6 1986 1995 624 11698 12.2

Keep in mind that Yao has been used mostly around the basket both on offense and defense, compared to some of these other players (not including Muresan). So, he's supposed to be getting larger share of rebounds.

Just last week he had 19 rebounds, no because he's hard of hearing because he's avg 6 rebs over the last 3. Its all effort which is linked to his scoring. Last week when he had the moster 4th qt, he was invisible in the 3rd. He had 1 shot attempt and 0 rebounds. When he started scoring, he started rebounding. That's not accident, that's not deaf in 1 ear, that's lack of effort. Stop with the excuses and just own up to it. They won, but the rebounds has to go up.

For those who talk about sharing rebounds, during the championship run, Dream avg 11, thorpe 10, and horry like 7. Its doesn't matter who's on the court, when you want to rebound, go get the ball.

    He has 16 today

Yao plays alongside a good rebounding team, unlike Howard who playes along side Lewis who is a 3 but plays the 4, Yao plays with a legitimate 4 including Scola and Landry. Similar to how people complain about Nowitzki only averaging 9 rebounds per game, when he plays alongside rebounding centers like Dampier and Diop.

Yao will have high rebounding games if the other team is missing shots, and the ball bounces his way. He's not a guy who can pursue the basketball outside of his immediate area. That's why you'll see more variation in his rebounding compared to more athletic rebounders who play big minutes. It's not like he slacks off more than other players. Quite the contrary. He's just limited, we all know it, and that's not going to change.

Say what you will but Yao's rebound avg is above KG and Amare which are considered "superstar" rebounders.

Why are we even talking about this? We're winning games, who cares if Yao gets 10 rebounds a game or as it stands now 9.8 rebounds a game. That's ridiculous to care about 0.2 rebounds.

We need to worry about winning, not worrying about why Yao let's other rockets get his rebounds.

As long as Rox win and Yao remains healthy and saves strength for the playoff, I don't mind he's getting less rebounds than his teammates.

He usually let Scola and Landry get the d rebounds. That should be one of the reasons sometimes his rebounds are not as high as people expected a 7' 6" guy should get.

But Yao is a team-oriented player - he seems not bothered letting his teammates get the rebounds.

You're just plain dumb! If you read the post I state that being deaf in 1 ear would be a lame excuse for a poor rebounding performance. So I actually made no excuse for him.I don't know how else to say it to you. If you knew anything about how hard the guy busts his ass for us and our team you would know he always gives effort. Winning isn't good enough for you is it? "They won, but the rebounds has to go up." Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. They have to go up or else what? You will keep making ignorant posts like this.

Also keep in mind that there was no 3-sec violation on defense (as far as i remember) before so big men can camp under the basket... I think being 7-6 and have to move around to avoid the 3-sec call. As we all know, he is not athlethic as other smaller center and that cost him a lot of rebounds...

Seriously, we should ban members with less than 200 posts from starting new threads. This is ridiculous. 1 star.
