Wasn't the story that Jackson was offered the Nuggets job AND his daughter was a student at University of Colorado? Instead he waits for the Laker job and gets Shaq/Kob plus he gets to date the owner's daughter. :)

    Smart guy that Phil J.

BTW, I used to love Phil as a player. Anyone remember him?

Excellent post Manny - I could not agree more. Larry Brown has done more with less numerous times. I respect Phil Jackson, but the arrogant comments he has had over the years really make him look bad.

I think he will be remembered as a great - elite coach, but he really hurts himself as his own biggest proponent.

I respect him, but do not like him....

Do you think Rudy T has no say in such things here in Houston? Good coaches play a big role in what happens with the team.

how did this become a phil vs larry thing. larry brown is an excellent coach, he has turned tons of places around, good for him. but again, why must you do this. if you can have the sweetest gig in the league or the crappiest, which do you choose. i guess if you wanna go ahead of larry in coaching you take the crappiest, but if you'd rather add your tweaking then sit back and relax, you take the lake show and all the benefits (league favoritism etc) that go along with it. i agree that it would make you look more impressive to take the crappy job and thus is a reason i wouldn't bestow all the praise on phil that he gets. however, one thing you have to say is his teams NEVER underachieve. you can't do anymore than win a title and he has pretty much done it every year (although i think it would be 2 less if there was any justice in the officiating, maybe 3 if they let LA beat sactown). he must be at least above average to have done all this. and i say this as someone who has rooted with every fiber of my being against the last 3 bulls titles and these 3 lakers runs. i have hated every one of those teams and agree that phil is blessed with the talent he gets. however, i believe that if another coach were in his place, perhaps those teams would win some titles but maybe not every year and maybe not at all. that's why its at least semi-remarkable; his teams never lose. greatest coach ever, i don't think so, good coach, certainly.

..... Don't take it from me, take it from Red himself.

Thank you. I was about to post that article myself as I saw it earlier and read it.

I love how Phil says that Auerbach was able to win so many titles because there were fewer teams and Red shot back that Phil wins because there are TOO MANY weak teams! hehe..

Red Auerbach is one of the most respected basketball men of all-time..the fact that he feels that way about the Zen-Man should speak volumes.

...A Celtic bad mouthing a Laker coach who was a former Knick player...

Red's a legend. But how much you can take in when it comes to him assessing his rivals?
