orrr the guy looked within himself and saw that the alcohol and drugs were ruining his life, so he was eventually able to summon the strength and courage to quit. human beings can be pretty damn awesome. very touching story all the way around.
so...... he was an ex-radio guy? touching story. more touching when he brought up his mom. 92 and she lives in brooklyn, dang.
Absolutely possible. I just took issue with the statement about "God being busy while this guy was on the streets battling his addictions". Either the guy summoned up the strength and courage on his own to quit or he found God and a belief in HIM and drew strength and courage to quit through that belief. Either way, great story.
Awesome story. The man's been clean for two years but on the streets...stayed strong, how do you like him now? Awesome.
I think that statement was just brusquely pointing out that people tend to give God the credit when things are going right in their lives, but it's their own fault if they're struggling.
Last I heard, he was trying to get to New York yesterday so that he could make an appearance on the Today show, but he couldn't get on the plane because he didn't have an ID. He was at the courthouse trying to get a copy of his birth certificate. I don't know if he made it to NY.
Looks like he made it to NY. "He says he had to make the rounds of homeless shelters to get proof of residence and then a a copy of his birth certificate before he could board the plane." http://content.usatoday.com/communi...golden-voice-does-the-intro-for-today-show-/1 <object width="420" height="245" id="msnbc1c7a35" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0"><param name="movie" value="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" /><param name="FlashVars" value="launch=40943396&width=420&height=245" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><embed name="msnbc1c7a35" src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" width="420" height="245" FlashVars="launch=40943396&width=420&height=245" allowscriptaccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed></object><p style="font-size:11px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #999; margin-top: 5px; background: transparent; text-align: center; width: 420px;">Visit msnbc.com for <a style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;" href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com">breaking news</a>, <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032507" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">world news</a>, and <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032072" style="text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;">news about the economy</a></p>
He has such an authoritative voice, I think if he took to conservative talk radio he could oust Rush...
I watched some interview from the Today show that said he's getting calls for voiceovers from everywhere. He was up in New York to do some voice overs for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. They apparently want his voice on their commercials or something.
He is probably much better off now than we would have been if he never got himself into trouble in the first place. Nevertheless, nice story.
