RIP LL. I dedicate this song to you man. <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/A_hw1xcfylI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Disrespectful might not be the best choice of words, but maybe you could see how it is somewhat selfish (not that the grieving process doesn't involve selfishness, sometimes it does), but if not that, then I doubt anything I can say would convince you otherwise. Go about your business as you please, my posts are merely observations, and at most, suggestions/advice, not commandments or orders. Just know that your sentiments, for all the good intentions you may have, may not be shared or viewed the same by those you aim them at. And given the man we're talking about, and the circumstances which led to his demise, it seems like something worth considering. That's all. Apologies to the cf.net community and the moderators in particular, but this was something I simply had to get off my chest. Perhaps my selfish grief moment. Trying to stand up for someone who isn't here. I'm recusing myself from this thread now so a little more peace can be had.
Saw this on Facebook, but didn't click on it because I thought it would probably be a depressing song. I have been listening to it over and over again since Batman posted it here.
Aye. Totally agree on all counts. I wished I could have known him personally... I'd hate to know I had a chance to help and didn't.
Grieving though is often more about the ones grieving than it is about the person who died. Donny's point is a good and yes to be true to the person that Rhien was it makes sense to not pray for him but at the same time if prayer provides comfort to those grieving then what is the harm? I can see if it comes to the point of using someone's death to advance a view that person didn't agree with such as what happened with Pat Tillman but I don't that is the case with individual prayer.
<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/W6H8WcTPnWM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> LL had a part of this song quoted in his sig the last few months. I listened to it a lot when I was depressed. Music is a healer.
Breaking my own rule and returning to this thread for a moment (I was really upset last night, so I felt like continuing in here would've only made things worse). It's more like if you're an atheist, you shouldn't talk about how there is probably no God when a Christian dies. Like I said, this was not meant to tell anyone how to think, feel, or act. If people want to pray, that is their choice. But they deserve to know who Rhien was, what he believed, and what happened to him before doing so. It might give them some perspective.
I'm assuming tin just found out that the song is about mike hutch of inxs. Because we all know how big of a fan of inxs he is. Next thing you'll know, he will make a thread about how the video was filmed in the astrodome and that's old school. Being old school, it's better. Next thing you know, he will tell us the director is from H-town. And that he directed videos for local rappers back in the day, like the geto boys! And that's old school! Sorry about that guys. Yeah religion is dicey for me. I actually wished I was a bit more religious to tell you the truth. When my mom is gone, I'm going to be so screwed on religion matters. Lets just say if I was to go away, I don't mind how you grieve or how you pray about it.
After hearing that song by Spiritualized, I plugged them into Pandora on the way home yesterday and discovered a whole new genre of music that I wasn't familiar with (space rock). I mean, I always thought Yo La Tengo was a tejano band.... Anyway, now I'm REALLY digging it. Ironic that even now LL is helping people like me discover new music, since I know that was a big part of who he was.
Christians should pray for all people. At our church we don't remove Jews, Muslims, Hindi, atheists from our prayers. We believe in God and we pray to God for those who have died. We pray to God to bring comfort and strength to the families of those who have died. We pray to God to bring healing to those who are sick and suffering. Should Christians say, "Dear God, we pray for the repose of the souls of all the Christian Navy Seals that were recently killed. We also pray for all those sick and suffering except for the atheists."? We strongly believe our prayers will help those who have died.

tried to rep. i'm not a devout christian by any means and i rarely pray, but it seems to me some people don't understand what prayer is.
totally fair point. however, announcing that you are praying for him in this thread helps no one. (although it doesn't hurt anyone save maybe donny)
Damn dude, on this thread? of course I know it's about Hutch. Thanks for reminding about that horrible keanu reaves football team looking video though.
Absolutely - suicide is a dumb thing to do unless you literally have no hope of being pain free again due to health reasons. The guy I mentioned is now a doctor, married, and has two kids. He's happy. He almost lost all of that because he couldn't see past his own pain which was temporal. We should do everything we can to stop someone and that's the moral thing to do for sure. All you can really do is when you find someone emotionally distressed suggest someone speak to a therapist. A lot of times people will take offense to that and all. But if you can do it in a way that will be taken the right way then that's it - and that's a lot.
If you like that song and the album that it came from, get Spiritualized's debut album, "Lazer Guided Melodies" and some stuff from Jason Pierce's previous band before Spiritualized in Spacemen 3. You might also like Slowdive even though they are more shoegaze than space rock.
