well to answer your question, in short. It doesnt matter what a person looks like, as long as the person is proud of their nationality, which im sure he is. My sister looks white, literally. People think she is white. Then I have cousins who have blue eyes, and dirty blonde hair. They are proud to be indian, and consider themselves "brown". i just dont think that people should get defensive over such terms, just as long as it is used in a nice way, rather a racist way.
a few excerpts i found interesting: "It wasn't until the end of the year that I learned that some of my teammates didn't want the Rockets to take me with the number-one pick. They thought the team should trade the pick for a veteran player who could help them right away. I didn't know anybody felt that way until I read it on a message board online, because nobody made me feel that way or said anything in the locker room." after this is a long quote by steve trying to explain why he didnt want yao...funny stuff anyone want to guess what message board? he says earlier in the book, btw, that his screen name for some sites was sabonis. hmmmmmm. the following quote is from steve about when rudy announced he had cancer and the team was told larry smith would sub... "So I guess everybody just thought, not that we'd run over Coach Smith, but that if Coach was off for a couple of days, we could screw around. You know, go out and be a little more free with our shots and not have to come out of the game. But then those days turned into weeks and weeks into months, and we never picked up where we had been when Rudy left." considering we were fighting for a playoff spot, im blown away he said this.
Which message board? Clutch? I remember there's a guy here whose screen name is Sabonis and signature is "I am Yao Ming!"
Hmm...if you are trying to imply that our fellow member with the screen name 'sabonis' is actually Yao Ming, I think you are way wrong. Here is what 'sabonis' says earlier in this thread:
You are absolutely right. As an honest person he is, he just didn't want Uncle Sam to take away part of that $24.99.
check ouot this thread: http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83873 There is an article written by Sabonis.
geez, you guys really need the help of those emoticon thingees, huh? i thought some jokes (sabonis) were obvious...
Ah a 37" vertical Yao Ming pre-injury? I'm weeping at the possibilities. He'd be an immediate 25-12 player his rookie year if that's true, even with his fatigue issues. Probably more. I doubt it's possible especially considering that our management would have already done it, but if it's truly possible to go fix those injuries so he could get full leaping ability, that would be insane. Pretty much the only two things Yao lacks are immediate hops, and better conditioning. 37" vertical Yao I better not think about it anymore. That's just too bad.
Rumor has it that Yao's gonna have his ankle treated later this month in San Francisco prior to the training camp. Maybe we'll see a 37" vertical Yao next season.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. Those injuries were years ago. I don't see how some treatment now would be able to turn back the clock. And besides, Yao doesn't need to jump higher to dominate the league. He just needs to stop huffing and puffing.
someone should make a thread & poll about whether Yao is "sabonis" lets gather all his posts and try to figure out if he could really be Yao?
What? Are you kidding me. That would be an absolute waste of time. To do what you're suggesting, is insane. There is only one answer to the question, "Is sabonis on ClutchFans actually Yao Ming?" Of course sabonis is Yao. Have you read his sig lately.
I'm about two thirds of the way through this book. It's a great read although it does get bogged down by some of the negotiation talk. I found it interesting that Yao HATED the Yao song (sorry Chance). He said the first season it got so bad it made playing at home a bad experience. He did say that they stopped playing it as much last season. Yao also said the whole "he doesn't like to dunk because the Chinese consider it impolite" not true. He said he didn't have to dunk in China and that when he tried to he would just get hacked so he simply shot jumpers and hooks. He said he likes to dunk. I got the book on Amazon for about $16 bucks. Well worth it.
Thats pretty interesting I bet you its the stuffing chewbacca that pissed him off, I bet Yao is a huge star wars fan
