It's wierd because up here, there are hotdog and hamburger places that add this sauce they call "Texas Sauce" to their food, and sell them as "Texas Hots." Everyone up here loves them for some reason, but the sauce is like a weak form of chili; I've had muuuuch better chili. I don't think it's that good, and everyone is flabbergasted when i tell them that I had never heard of this stuff until i moved here. Also, about the Texas history question.... People always laugh when I tell them that I had to take Texas History. There is no such thing as a New York history class.
You should have seen the looks on the faces of my New York friends when I cooked chicken fried steak for them the first time!
Pretty damn close, not even one whole degree of difference: Austin 30° 18' N Tallahassee 30° 23' N Baton Rouge 30° 32' N
Maybe the person who made this list just measured a straight line on a map while you got back actual driving distance.
bless·ed ( P ) Pronunciation Key (blsd) also blest (blst) adj. Worthy of worship; holy. Held in veneration; revered. Blessed Roman Catholic Church. The best time I ever had in France was one 4th of July in Cannes. Spent the better part of the afternnoon and the rest of the night at a place called "Le Saloon" which was owned by a guy from Dallas. He always threw a big shindig on the Fourth. A couple of friends and I gorged ourselves on real Tex-Mex, Carta Blanca and a band doing spot-on Dire Straits covers. The place was wall-to-wall by mid-evening and the locals were great. It WAS pretty weird seeing Oiler jerseys and Cryboy cheerleader posters in a bar in France.
Ha ha, yeah, our Texas pride is definitely institutionalized. Luckily, the state's history is pretty interesting. Indian tribes to Conquistadores to six flags to our very own war! Which we won! Oh yeah, and we killed JFK! Then the Rockets won two NBA championships!!
I had to take Iowa History. Being from such a small community we actually had several weeks on the history of our town - It was really pretty interesting.
That's why I'm glad that I have a mom to cook good home-cooked southern dishes. People here look at me crazy when I talk about Chicken Fried Steak, Frito Pie, and Chicken Spaghetti.
I love this kind of stuff...The only fact I can add is that having lived in both Houston and Dallas, Houston is the best city in Texas, period...
Enforcing pledging to the state flag is a Texas thing too. I never did that when I went to California. "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."
