Listen closer to Daryl's words. The reason Morey didn't match the Parsons contract is because he viewed it as untradeable. Player option, trade kicker, $16 million/year that goes through 2017, all that stuff. If Daryl thought he could move Parsons next summer, he absolutely would have matched.

A $7.9 million expiring contract, which Ilyasova would be in 2015-16... is roughly identical to cap figures of Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik, both of whom the Rockets successfully traded to create cap room this year (and well below the $15 million cash payout of the latter two). Asik fetched positive value in return, and even Lin required only a late 1st round pick to move.

I think the Rockets would IDEALLY prefer to stick to 1-year contracts, but I think acquiring a reasonable contract that expires in 2016 is something they would consider. Recent precedent (Warriors in 2013, Rockets in 2014) shows that those are VERY movable. Tons of teams are under the cap these days.

Now Monroe i'd be down for, we could easily move him in s&t for Rondo, Love or who ever we go after next season. Monroe would be a valuable trading piece.

You know who we need? IMHO: Jason Smith.

Geezus are you a Bucks fan?

I would argue to Morey than taking back Ilyasova you are doing them more good than you are potentially doing for yourself given his contract situation.

I would say that D-Mo for Ilyasova is about as high as I get, and I might even ask for a 2nd rounder while I'm at it. However the most I give up is D-Mo or Canaan.

The Rockets are trying to acquire contracts & picks that help them with trades for the future. They need to be ACQUIRING picks, not giving them away.

I hate Monroe. I know y'all love him. Reminds me of Marc Jackson (he played for the Nets & 76ers I think). But if he's coming for 1yr with the 2nd as team option sign me up.

Ariza + Monroe would be a better roster than what we had last season. Hope there is some truth behind it and that we can get something done.

That protected first is a hard one to give up, considering the lack of assets for 2015, but this is a trade that makes sense.

I see a very good possibility that Ilyasova would play out like Lin. Why would we want that? Would be better for us to stick to expiring's, and valuable trading pieces to upgrade our roster short term.

I'd rather roll with TJones than Ersan.

Tjones is home grown, cheaper and frankly, last yea he was better.

Why would the Pelis want Greg when they just got Asik?

Why are you so certain that Monroe is a valuable trading chip? He already turned down 5/60 from the Pistons and really hasn't improved the last few years... a solid rebounder that does not defend or work as a stretch 4.

It depends on your other options. If Ilyasova is significantly better for the 2014-15 team than whatever your expiring options are, I'd probably take the risk if the worst-case scenario is having to use a future pick in the 20s to ditch him. That's not particularly costly. Plus, there are plenty of scenarios that might not even require that -- for example, Ilyasova's payout is roughly half of Lin's, and he'd probably get some inflated shooting numbers with the attention drawn by Howard/Harden.

Should we make a separate G. Monroe thread? Might as well get it up to 25 pages before a Woj/Feigen bomb.

To provide post offense, play PF. Asik is C, defense & rebound specialist. Monroe also complements Anderson better than Smith does.

does anyone else think Monroe would be a poor fit next to Dwight? talk about clogging the lane. Am i off base? haven't watched a lot of Detroit games but did watch a lot of Greg Monroe in college. Certainly would fill the role of a PF/C guy

I still don't understand the plan here. Will there even be anyone available in free agency next year worth getting?

I find it hard to believe that Love and Rondo are going to make it through the year on their current teams. If we are going to trade for a Rondo or Love, we're going to need the salary to match. The time to do this was when we swung the Asik trade but I suppose it is too late for that now...

Perhaps Ilyasova isn't that guy for the "flexibility" reasons given in this thread, but there is no doubt that we have to add some pieces to this team. Besides the issue of fielding a competitive team, the salary for TJones, D-Mo, and rookies/picks won't be enough to swing a trade. That is especially true if you are still interested in Love (I don't see this happening). In that case, MN probably wants to dump a contract too.

I find it hard to believe we are really going to sit around until next summer on the 10 percent chance that one of these guys is really available.

why would the Rockets want Monroe? We just dumped Asik. Is it because we might get an asset cheap? I'd rather help NOP get Monroe by taking Anderson off their hands.
