He is a good defender but his offense is a net negative because he does REALLY stupid things with the ball....and he demands that he have the ball.

He hasn't had positive offensive win shares in the last 2 years and last years -1.4 is incredibly sad. If you also consider that his defensive numbers fell off last year and that his game is 100% reliant on athleticism and he'll be 29 next year it's not a stretch to think that he could be out of the league in 3 or 4 years.

How much better is Ilyasova than Casspi? Seem like similar players, with Ilyasova obviously being the more proven guy.

Thing is, we will never get Gibson or Ibaka with a expiring and ballon contract like Asik or Lin, Smith on the other hand...

Our championship window will also be dead in 3-4 years, I think your over exaggerating and completely disagree with you saying he will be out the league at 32, he's also never had injuries in career.

Okay, but I think our championship window could be dead immediately if we were blowing 14 mil a year on someone like Smith. Look at Smith's career, his numbers just scream "poor man's Shawn Kemp".

Also, sure he's never had any serious injuries, but he's missed games in all but 2 seasons of his entire career. Even that doesn't really matter because players who are completely reliant on athleticism fall off quickly once that starts to fade just a bit.

Defense doesn't fade as much as offense, we might as well start looking to trade Howard too with this in mind. Smith is 28, he will be able to finish his contract at or close to his current level of play IMO (without any injuries of course)

Also, if we were to sign Lowry and Parsons (10 mill a year each), our cap would be GONE and wouldn't comeback until the team is blown up. So why not trade Lin or (Asik, both would have to traded anyway to add Smith and Lowry) a expiring player who didn't work out with the team, for a player that would fill our biggest hole on the team at the 4, and who would serve as a elite perimeter, post and pick and role defender (which surprise, is our biggest need)

He's already a serious negative out there on offense, even at his current level he hurts that side of the team and isn't THAT good at defense. His current play is Chandler Parsons on defense and worse than Carlos Boozer on offense....can't we do better?

Seriously? He is nothing like Parsons on defense? That's a terrible comparison, second boozer is a decently skilled ofensive player?! Even worse comparison, especially since your trying to make a point that he is unskilled on offense.

Josh is a great defender, close to elite if not elite. Is chandler?

Josh is a unskilled offensive player, true, not much of a post game, no consistent jumper (both which boozer have??) but he still puts up 16-18 points a game because he can really finish inside off of assist and pick&rolls.

Would be nice to add a stretch 4 before going into the season.

He should be able to be acquired on the cheap. You know Morey's on the phone.

That trade exception should be enough to absorb his contract, correct?

I'm sure the Rockets are asking for an asset with Ilysova...maybe a pick or two. Or Khris Middleton

I think hes making $8 million or something so I would say yes if our exception is at $8 million.

    Is he healthy though?

Unfortunately, I just don't see it happening. Ilyasova has 2 years left on our contract and is not a valuable trading piece. With Morey declaring were all in for the third star and nothing else, the chances of Ilyasova here are dead.

No Smith, Ilyasova, Anderson, Young, all have multiple year contracts and aren't valuable trading pieces. If we make any trades it will how to follow the criteria of on of the following 3 things.

    1 Expiring
    2 Valuable trading piece
    3 3rd star

So even though Ilyasova would be a nice addition to our roster, it's not happening. Morey let go of Parsons because he didn't fit that criteria, no way Ilyasova becomes an exception.
