As citizens, we have a responsibility to vote and to have some knowledge of the candidates and the issues that we are voting on. We should also know the basics of voting. We should have learned these things in school. We should know that presidential elections are held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in November every 4 years. We should know that everybody votes on that day (not Republicans on Tuesday and Democrats on Wednesday). We should know that felons aren't allowed to vote, but others are. If you believe a pamphlet that says Democrats are supposed to vote on Wednesday, then you should not be voting. I agree that distributing this type of disinformation is a sorry attempt to discourage voters, but these same voters should have enough knowledge of the basic of votings that they simply disregard this kind of stuff. Voting is a privilege, voting is a responsibility, voting is a right, voting is a tenant of our freedoms. We should not take this act lightly. We should know what we are doing or we should not be doing it.
No sale. The two posters I quoted claimed that there is an "ignorance threshold" that you have to pass in order to be allowed to vote. If that is true, than who cares if they are willfully ignnorant and/or irrational? It makes no difference. People who ignore the mountain of scientific evidence in favor of a point that has zero scientific evidence are ignorant, and willfully so, according to any secular definition. By the way, even your reasoning is wrong. In states with early voting, there are multiple election days. Likewise, in cases of runoff elections, there are multiple election days. You won't find any such confusion in any science textbooks with regard to whether the earth was created 3k years ago in 6 days or much, much further back.
Congratulations bobrek! You just highlighted your own misconceptions with regard to voting and demonstrated why according to your definition, you should not be voting.... This is, of course, not true in Maine and Vermont, even for felons currently incarcerated, and in many other states in many circumstances (For example South Carolina, upon completion of parole or probation). http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/news/state/041009inmatevote.shtml I trust you will be staying home tomorrow, since you failed in your civic responsibilities that you outlined for yourself. It's for the best, cause sometimes karma just ain't cool.
LOL! A Bush supporter tried to run me off the road on 610 by the Astrodome. It was funny to me. I have a Kerry Edwards sticker on back of the ride. His sign on the back of his Mini van was hella creative though. He had 2 John Kerry pictures on the back windshield of his van. The one on the left said flip, the one on the right said flop. He had his rear window wiper on going from left to right. FLIP FLOP FLIP FLOP!No rain nowhere in site. Although I am for Kerry, I thought that was a great idea for a sign...... I would have spanked that zass if he got out the van though
I think to understand why this happens, you have to understand the mentality of people who work on and volunteer for political campaigns. There is a VERY strong sense of moral superiority on a campaign staff. There is almost a good vs. evil type vibe. This isn't always true, but in the heat of the race, a lot of campaigns will do just about anything to get their person elected. And the people who volunteer are hard-core supporters of that particularly party or candidate making them SOMETIMES act with zealot-like fervor. It is an unfortunate side effect off political campaigns.
What I don't understand is - how can ANYONE feel so enthusiastic about these candidates. I can't friggin' stand any of the candidates, and am forced to vote for "the lesser of two idiots". And I'm not alone - check out KerryHatersForKerry.com -- droxford
i think its more than just political parties, and really just groups in general, this will stretch to sports fans (let me post a "lets sign malone" thread) religious groups, band groupies, and even ethnic groups. A lot of (pathetic) people too often lose their individuality and become a product of the group.
Because most of them are unemployed losers with nothing better to do when what they should be doing is looking for work.
Even though his speeches are FAR from exciting, I am enthusiastic about a Kerry White House. Sure, it will only last until he does something to pi$$ me off, but I like his ideas, if not his near total lack of charisma.
Do you bomb territory for the Crips or Bloods? Taggers use the "$" in place of an "S" when they are in the part of the gang that sells drugs... Given your stance on legalizing pot, I find it quite thought provoking. Hmmmm.... Carry on, you $imply $illy Bu$h Ba$her, you.
