Aggressively going after the companies that employ illegal aliens would go a long way towards slowing illegal immigration down. I mean they are coming here because there are economic opportunities for them...but we know that will never happen.

One major party doesn't like targeting business, the other doesn't want an end to illegal immigration....they want open borders, so yeah I think you are right we'll never get this even though it would be partially effective.

Unfortunately, most efforts focus on small businesses... like raiding 7/11 stores. And the other challenge... it would like require hiring more expensive workers, so the businesses would raise the costs of goods. Not saying that is necessarily bad... since perhaps the cost of goods are artificially low due to using illegal workers. Last, I suspect some jobs would just not be filled (eg agricultural jobs).

    Ding ding ding.

Powerful business owners have inflated profit margins due to under paying illegal immigrants. This is why there is a problem. Moving your entire life to a new country isn’t easy. People don’t do it unless there is an opportunity for them to make significantly more money than they do in their home nation.

But I’m sure those who own the businesses aren’t unduly influencing our politicians.

    Nice strawman.
What has that got to do with immigrants crossing the border illegally?

There is no solution. Poor people are going to do their best to try to get out of their situation. America is the best place to go. As long we have jobs people are going to want to come here. I guess we could have a recession and less people will try to come here.

There's nothing that will stop people wanting to come here, just like there's nothing that will stop people wanting to steal money....but that doesn't mean that you can't make it incredibly difficult to rob banks.

A fix to the immigration problem would be fairly simple if you didn't have one party that doesn't want to attack business and the other that doesn't actually want to stop the flow of illegal immigrants....they want open borders.

    Bobby is right on this.

Illegal immigration COULD be fixed but the truth is that neither party will really embrace a fix for their own reasons.

One party though made a mistake by blowing the issue way out of proportion and creating a class within the base that is truly enraged and believes that immigrants are destroying America.

Again, your post wasn't sensible, and my response was appropriate to your post. And trust me, you really haven't rebutted anything.

I did not get a response earlier and I may be impatient. So, I will ask again.

Can anyone name the countries that the average American can immigrate to in order to increase their standard of living and income by 3-10 times what it currently is?
