Well we finally see something that will help stop some of the undocumented immigration that the conservatives basically like as an election issue. This is among the easiest as our economic blockade is pretty directly causing the poorer Venezuelans to come up through Central America and Mexico. We are now letting Venezuela sell crude, import more refined products and partly to reduce oil prices and now undocumented immigration among the poor who have been crushed by our economic sanctions. https://archive.ph/1suKc
Probably just joined the military to burnish his resume. It is frequently done by those who plan to run for office.
How come people here never complain about the #1 source of illegal immigrants. Flights into major airports.
Because they want to frame a narrative of poor latin people migrating as "invaders" and it's much easier to portray an imagery of an "invasion" by saying that illegal immigration is mostly a problem of these scary traffickers smuggling in people across the border. It sounds more spooky basically to concentrate on the border.
I would like to think that both sides could come together and fix this, but it never happens because it's a party line to bash the "evil immigrants" The right wants to scare you to death and doesn't really have a feasible plan and the left doesn't seem to put the effort into fixing it that I feel they should. It's not an easy fix, but the first question should be what's our stance as a country and what will we do to have a long-term fix or do we just keep using this problem every 4 years to have more sound bites................both sides have failed, politics as usual. IMO we need and should welcome immigrants, but they should be vetted and we need to be able to scale this based on how many we want to bring in at any given time. I don't know that we can ever be 100% perfect but what we have now doesn't work and as long as I've been voting this is always a big issue All I know is this needs to stop being such a political hot potato and work on fixing the issue and stop the lies and disinformation
Going forward, do you believe that flights into major airports will continue to be the #1 source of illegal immigrants?
10 years trend. What would change it? ".... immigrants, who enter countries legally on student, tourist, or work visas and then stay past their visa’s expiration date, are often overlooked in the discussion of illegal immigration. But in the past 10 years, visa overstays in the United States have outnumbered border crossings by a ratio of about 2 to 1, according to Robert Warren, who was for a decade the director of the statistics division at the agency that has since been renamed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and who is now a senior visiting fellow at the Center for Migration Studies, a New York–based organization."
