Someone should tell the felon that he could be charged with another felony (Immigration and Nationality Act (I.N.A.), at Section 274(a)(1)(A)(ii) )...

Abbott using these poor people as pawns in his political games is disgusting.

This is why I've continued to say that this country needs more immigration and not less. That the solution to "illegal immigration" is to legalize much of it.

That doesn't mean we have a complete open door policy but that we accept the market reality that there is demand for more labor in this country and that there is a ready supply for it. That artificially constraining that just leads to more of a black market.

Democrats in tough races revolt over Biden administration border move
The decision to end a public health order used to expel migrants has resounded on the campaign trail as Republicans eye a potent midterm wedge issue

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/04/15/biden-border-democrats/

    excerpt:

President Biden is facing a growing mutiny from Democratic candidates — including five vulnerable senators — who are questioning his administration’s decision to lift a pandemic health order that has drastically curtailed migrants’ ability to seek asylum at the southern border.

The internal dissension is an early acknowledgment from many Democrats that worries about border security and immigration could become a major obstacle for them in this year’s midterm elections. Polls show the topic to be a leading concern for voters, and one on which Biden has received low marks. Now, candidates are openly warning that the Biden administration’s decision to stop using the public health order, known as Title 42, could lead to chaotic conditions at the border and refocus public attention on an issue that has challenged president after president.

Democratic senators from Nevada to Georgia to New Hampshire have distanced themselves from the move, charging that the administration has yet to present a satisfactory plan to prepare for the expected increase in attempted border crossings. The decision also threatens to create friction between these Democrats and liberal voters demanding more protections for migrants.

Leon Fresco, an immigration attorney and former aide to Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), said Democrats are in desperate need of a “reframing” of the border issue. “Because this debate, the way it’s currently structured, is very bad for Democrats,” he said. “Either we have Title 42 and no chaos, or Title 42 and chaos. That’s just not a good look for anybody right now.”

The Trump administration used Title 42 to expel tens of thousands of migrants, and until recently the Biden administration continued renewing the policy. Republicans have signaled they are eager to make the border a centerpiece of their political message, tying it to a larger argument that Democrats have been ineffective in fighting crime and drugs, and have struggled to rein in chaos at home and abroad.

U.S.-Mexico Border Arrests Top One Million in Six Months
In March alone, almost 210,000 migrants crossed the border illegally, said U.S. Customs and Border Protection

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-me...n-in-six-months-11650323756?mod=hp_listc_pos2

    excerpt:

WASHINGTON—The U.S. has made more than a million arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border since October, the fastest pace of illegal border crossings in at least the last two decades, according to new data released Monday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Border agents made 209,906 arrests along the border in March, making it the busiest month in two decades. Another 11,397 migrants were permitted to enter the country to seek humanitarian protection at land border crossings, according to the data. The numbers cover a period from the beginning of the fiscal year to the end of March.

The numbers included a sharp rise in migrants from Cuba and Ukraine. About 32,271 Cubans crossed illegally at the border in March alone—almost as high as the 38,390 Cubans who crossed in all of the last fiscal year. So far this year, 79,377 Cubans have crossed the border illegally.

Nearly 5,000 Ukrainians were allowed to enter the country on temporary humanitarian grounds, primarily at a border checkpoint near San Diego.

The record numbers come as the Biden administration prepares to lift a pandemic-era border policy on May 23. Title 42, which was implemented under former President Donald Trump, allows border agents to quickly turn away people who are arrested trying to enter the country illegally as well as those who seek asylum at a border checkpoint.

Of the 1.01 million crossings so far this year, roughly 51% resulted in the migrant being expelled under Title 42, while the rest were processed under normal immigration procedures, meaning they were either rapidly deported, detained or released to seek asylum. Title 42 can elevate the total number of border crossings each month, as it encourages some migrants to cross the border repeatedly, who are attempting to enter the country undetected.

Even with Title 42 in place, the Biden administration presided over the highest number of arrests made at the border on record last year. Administration officials have acknowledged that revoking the policy is likely to result in a further rise in illegal border crossings, as migrants who want to seek asylum will no longer be blocked from doing so.

It's not my position, but I think the genuine answer would be that the tight labor market is great because it's been putting upward pressure on wages. We don't want to relieve the labor shortage -- keep it tight and force wages even higher. Of course, the folks that want to reduce immigration to keep jobs for Americans also tend to be critical of the inflation. And sure, inflation is a headwind for households. But, to whatever extent higher wages are contributing to inflation, you'd accept the inflation to get the benefit of the higher wage.

Open borders! Come one, come all! Just don’t bring them to my city/state.

“There will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration.”
“A border wall is the physical embodiment of @realDonaldTrump’s inability to develop effective immigration policy.”

“I've asked for the deployment of the Guard as long as we need the Guard to deal with the crisis that we expect to escalate," Bowser said. "The number of people crossing the border seeking asylum we expect to only go up.” … Dr. Christopher Rodriguez, director of DC's Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, said in the letter that the situation is "unsustainable."

no worries. Just let the small towns in Texas and Arizona handle the crush

Democratic cities get a taste of the overwhelming cost of open borders

    https://nypost.com/2022/07/29/democ...ste-of-the-overwhelming-cost-of-open-borders/

    excerpt:

In April, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott touted his plan to bus illegal immigrants released by the Biden administration up to D, saying of White House officials, “If they’re not going to come to the border, I’m going to take the border to them.”

Arizona followed suit and, to be honest, I was skeptical. Stunts are a natural part of politics, of course, so there’s nothing wrong with that, but I figured the numbers wouldn’t be big enough to get anyone’s attention.

The anti-enforcement crowd was more scathing, mocking what they saw as a hilarious self-own by troglodyte Republican governors. Then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki snarked: “It’s nice the state of Texas is helping them get to their final destination.” The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank said the bus trips were “a bust” which “haven’t had any impact on President Biden, nor on said government, nor even on local authorities.” And the New York Times crowed that “Texas’ Busing of Migrants to D.C. Isn’t Having Abbott’s Intended Effect Yet.”

    Well, it is now!

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser pleaded this week for the National Guard to help her city address the “humanitarian crisis” caused by the arrival of so many illegal border-crossers. In her letter to the Department of Defense, she said the arrival of 4,000 people over the past three months from the Southwest border had “overwhelmed” her capacity to respond.

Wow, 4,000 illegals, you say? Over three months?

It turns out that in June the Border Patrol in Texas apprehended more than 4,000 border-jumpers each day.

The small border towns that have had to cope with the 1 million-plus illegal immigrants the Biden administration has released into the US since January 2021 have nowhere near the resources of Washington, DC (or New York, where Mayor Adams has also complained, even though the buses are only going to DC). The Texas border town of Del Rio, for instance, population 35,000, last fall saw a shanty town spring up almost overnight with some 15,000 Haitian illegal immigrants. Yuma, Ariz., declared a state of emergency in December as 1,000 border-jumpers per day showed up.
