It is very smart politically to arrest and advertise the arrest and deportation of those undocumented illegal aliens very early on to get more approval from the public. Target child molesters, violent offenders.... pursue them and find them at all costs, and have their capture caught by media whores like Dr. Phil and others....... while the overwhelming majority of those being captured are hardworking contributors. No one wants to see a mom that cleans houses to raise her children being arrested and deported. Same with the long term illegal alien that has worked at Chili's for a decade and pays taxes. Once the narrative is set through selective arrests - and you have framed the argument as you are arresting and deporting criminals (regardless of what the statistical evidence shows), the American people will be more accepting of the tens of thousands and maybe hundreds of thousands of safe/hardworking people being sent away at great taxpayer costs. It also allows for pushback when the complaints over inflation and entire communities failing without illegal immigrants to work and live - "Be patriotic, who wants a rapist in their town?"..... never mind the fact that a group of people almost the size of Florida could be exiting the country. I don't know what the long-term ramifications will be (good or bad), but the level of propaganda and the execution of the plan thus far has been impressive.
This seems like a really bad idea ---- a recipe for violence.... but then again, that is likely what some on both sides of the fence want.

No - the difference was at what cost. There are plenty of American born child molesters and violent criminals that the Trump administration could be targeting right now but they are not doing so. They are specifically targeting illegal aliens, and any time that you have a large and coordinated effort to track down groups of people, you will find some criminals and terrible people in your net. The statistics overall show that illegal aliens are not any more likely to commit sexual or violent crimes than other groups in the USA. When you are targeting between 15,000,000 and 20,000,000 people - you are going to have some criminals. The Trump administration is being very smart to advertise each and every criminal that ends up in their net and to not discuss all of those that are not criminals and violent that are being sent back as well. I know and am friends with a number of people that are illegal aliens in the USA. The fact that they are in the USA illegally would surprise most people as they have been in the country for decades and have solid employment and social lives. They have attempted to get citizenship in the past without success........ I am curious to see what happens with them. There are citizens that will hide and protect them if asked.

In my opinion.... R politicians use the "criminal illegals" argument to support their cause. While I believe it's true that violent criminals from other countries are here illegally, I believe that the vast majority of illegal aliens are peace-loving people who just want a better life. ...but they should still be deported. We have established quotas for immigrants, and we should enforce those quotas. If we, American citizens, feel that we should allow more immigrants here, then we should do an impact assessment, and, if the impacts are acceptable, we should increase the quotas (which was last done in 1990). ...but then, we should enforce the quotas. We should always enforce the quotas.
It wont help the country. There is no reason to spend time and money more than we already do. I have no idea why everyone cares so much about illegal immigration. Has it ever affected your life?
