For some, I would surmize this might pose some severe cognitive dissonance.

Then let's compare it to the Abortion debate. Most conservatives view Children in the womb as individual humans with rights correct? Why would you punish a child by denying him/her citizenship based on the crimes of their parent? Seems like a slippery slope. The child should have the right to choose if they want to become citizens of the U.S. or the country their parents are from. This is a pandoras box that ignores the rights of a protected class in the eyes of conservatives. You can't kill a baby when its born and claim it has no rights correct?
My technicalities? You do realize I presented the 2nd and 14th amendments. Verbatim. I was not comparing them, but making a point in how we, as a community of people, selectively agree or disagree with "wording" based upon our ideology. Some might say that the wording of the 2nd only refers to "a well regulated militia" rather than the current interpretation. Similarly, some may read the "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" to exclude undocumented aliens rather than the children of ambassadors and foregin ministers as intended.

Similarly, this law was written for slave rights 3 centuries ago need not apply to the 21st century, where if 1 parent isn't a citizen, then the kid should not be a citizen.
