trump floats out another immigration threat, fully knowing its impossible... but hey, it gets the focus off the current news and stirs his base just before the midterms:
MSM should just ignore this trolling attempt. If asked about this Democrats should say they believe in the constitution, but want strong immigration reform with a clearer path to citizenship. Turn back to when Republicans claimed Obama was a criminal because he signed executive orders that were not supported by the constitution. Ask why the Republicans do not care about the Constitution now?
Is it impossible??? If he does it . . .and a challenge for the SCOTUS .. . he has the votes there I think he guaranteed it last month. Rocket River
Well since Trump is trying to override the Constitution of the United States, surely @tallanvor and @Bobbythegreat will come in here and attack Trump for his unconstitutional practices. We shouldn't let Trump strip our rights away.
Is there full agreement among legal scholars that this amendment applies to parents who are not legal permanent residents? That seems like it is debatable to me. I think a clarification on this point is in order (just as many of us desire a clarification/curtailment of the second amendment). I thought that some Dems in the past have supported laws that prevent granting citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants. I would hope the objection here is actually principled, and not merely partisanship as usual. And both the CIS and PolitiFact analysis provides good arguments for supporting this proposal, leaving aside the character of the President and whatever his motivations might be for driving this. Consider: Among the minority of countries who grant citizenship simply by birth, the US has the most immigrants. People aren’t rushing to become citizens of Guatemala. The practice of “birthright citizenship” in the Americas could very well be a remnant of our colonial past, a strategy to overwhelm the indigenous population with an influx of people from the outside. The global trend in recent decades has been to move away from this.
even Trump's nominee to the court of appeal knows that dotard is out of his mind, “Birthright citizenship is a constitutional right, no less for the children of undocumented persons than for descendants of passengers of the Mayflower," Dallas attorney James Ho wrote in 2007 in the Des Moines Register. Last month,Trump said he is nominating Dallas attorney James Ho to the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals . A former Texas solicitor general, Ho has won cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and the 5th Circuit. He’s an active member of the Federalist Society. And he's written on the issue many times before and since: Starting in 2000 in Constitutional Commentary, just a year after graduating from law school at the University of Chicago; in 2004, for The Green Bag, a quarterly legal journal; again in the Green Bag in 2006; for the Register in 2007; the Wall Street Journaland then the Washington Times in 2011. https://www.texastribune.org/2017/1...nominee-at-odds-Trump-birthright-citizenship/
Absolutely, he doesn't have the authority to end birthright citizenship, it's blatantly unconstitutional and an attack on the rights of the people that cannot stand.
Exciting news. This is huge for progress, even if it can't be done by executive order Trump gets things done. He finds a way. The system has reached a breaking point - you can't keep playing it.
It certainly wasn't the intent of the 14th amendment that people could enter illegally and if they gave birth their kids were automatically citizens. It creates all sorts of perverse incentives to encourage illegal immigration. That being said, original meaning is what matters, not original intent. The 14th says the person must be born here and fall under US jurisdiction. Whether an illegal falls under US jurisdiction is the question (more specifically, what that phrase was understood to mean at the time the amendment was ratified)
The boarder is a problem that doesn’t have a clear answer. Open borders is beyond idiotic as no country with mass immigration has this. Really the only feasible solution is to fix Mexico. Fitting all of Mexico’s population in the USA is going to be a disaster. We need Mexico to a place people don’t want to leave.
Yes cuz the left is so innocent. Lmao. The left n right are the same wicked team just different ideologies
