Depends on how you define "major". I could definitely see him taking some kind of a paycut, and turning down slightly better offers from elsewhere to stay in Houston. At the end of the day, though if someone offers the right deal, he'd obviously go somewhere else. It's not like he's married to Houston or something.
If TMac loves it here so much then let he should not mind letting us denounce him this coming summer so we can sign another impact player that would help us to the Championship. Then we could resign him to an NBA minimum contract.
Its funny how people are now saying, "Oh, he just wants to say the right things." Why is it funny? Because T-Mac gets ripped when he openly speaks his mind. S that means people rather hear him say "the right things" like any other player does right? Wrong. He's starting to say "the right things" and still gets flammed. Only in T-Merica, Only in T-Merica! Lose/Lose situation for anything the guy does.
Everyone who's saying that he should accept the minimum, that's really not fair. He's worth more than that, even playing only 15 20 mins a game. You need to be at least realistic about your expectations of him and give him a fair chance.
In the same article: The team allowed fans and media to run with the idea that McGrady was healthy last season when it was obvious he wasn’t. It kept repeating the refrain that MRIs McGrady underwent showed no change while leaving out the fact that those MRIs showed damage that might require surgery to repair
This is like when they scream sell, sell, sell on CNBC ...and it's the last verification one needs to buy.
The best thing to do would be to rennounce him with a commitment that he would give the team time to find a player and wait to our offer. Then our offer coulds satisfice him or not, but he would be polite to wait for it. I think 5-6 millions of the MLE money are right, if he can outproduce Ariza on both ends of the court, of the same as Ariza if he does it only on offense.
Yeah, that's a fact, at the end of his day it is his JOB. So just like people like working in a certain place, he like working here. Doesn't mean he'll turn down a much better deal elsewhere. It's just one factor among many.
Seems like TMac knows he will be traded soon with all that has come out: TMac getting playing time, article in the Miami papers about wanting TMac, and now TMac saying how he likes the city/organization. I will wait and see what happens next.
He was not worth more than that last season. And I can tell you this with certainty. If I was already a multi-multi millionaire with enough money to take care of my kids, kids, kids with out any of them ever working I would absolutely take league minimum to help the team get a better player. Chuck did it. I would not be the first.
You know, when you put it that way, I think I could concede this one. If the team went to him and talked to him about it and explained what they wanted to do with the money and how they were going to make a push for a championship with it and why they needed it, then I think he might go for it. We'll see. But, personally, I wouldn't fault him if he didn't or say he was not up to par with a real Houston fan. It's a personal decision at the end of the day.
Think Mac might have taught Landry a thing or two to help him get to where he is today? Taught him how to play, but also how not to play! Both important lessons ..
I believe him. And I admire him for that...because I'm a die-hard Houstonian myself. I don't know where all this hate comes from, the only reason we've been relevant the past few seasons is because of him. God, I remember when we had the Francis/Mobley combo...
People need someone to hate - I really think that. It's not just in Houston. Every city wants to pin it's failures on one guy...whether it's deserved or not. Hakeem was a scapegoat in the late 80's until things turned around. Nasty articles were written about how he should hide in a Lakers gym bag when they came to town since all he wanted to do is play for the Lakers. People forget that stuff after the championship era. But look more recently to Francis, then JVG, and now T-mac. After T-mac it will be Ariza. After Ariza maybe Battier. Eventually it will be Adelman some day.
