A foundation? You mean a role player Tim Duncan is a foundation Ariza is a role player Ariza signed here cause he knew he could jack up as many shots as he wanted. Why else would he not go to the cavs or the lakers.
i understand what you're saying. but tracy had all the skills to be a great scorer. if he stayed in toronto, he would have scored more anyways (not at 30 like with orlando b/c of less shots). but he had all the skills ALREADY needed (ballhandling, penetration, midrange jumpshot, post game, 3pt shot). those weren't "glaring" weaknesses in his game. again, i don't mind ariza trying to improve his game and look to score more. he can use adelman's system for that. we will rarely need his 1-on-1 game when we are a championship team (he's at best a 4th option on a championship team). that is why i would prefer him to perfect what he already has in his tank. ariza really looks AWKWARD when he tries to go 1-on-1.
Lets just say I hope Ariza's all-around game improves in a positive way and not in the Landry-shooting-3s-?-OMG!! way
if you take away his bad offense (largely due to him trying to do too much), he's been a very good all-around player. he gives you good defense, rebounds, and surprisingly a decent passer (usually after 1 dribble).
I haven't been able to watch too many Rockets games this year, but from what I've seen, I don't really mind Ariza taking a somewhat high volume of threes, if that's what we're calling bad shots. Most of them, from what I saw, were fairly open and in rhythm. He's just been missing them lately, but I think he'll turn that around sometime soon.
Foundation in this case was meant to mean starting player for the fore seeable future. Certainly Trevor isn't a franchise player, but his developement this year is still more valuable than letting a free agent to be who dominates the ball and is almost certain to be gone next year rehab on the court. I'm not saying Ariza shouldn't temper his shot selection, but there is some expected growing pains when a role player is asked to be a primary scorer and I can live with that with the hope that it makes him a better player down the road. I do find the idea that Tracy is doing everything right and is some kind of victim in this situation comical when Tracy is setting his own public "target dates" despite what the team tells him and keeps sticking his foot in his mouth over and over. I would love for him to surprise me and come back 100% and lead us on a miracle run, but at this point there is alot more reason to doubt Tracy than there is to doubt the rockets.
He's a 31% career 3 point shooter. This is as good as it gets from Ariza from beyond the arc. Better learn to live with it, although I think the volume will go down once we have everyone back.
What Rafer Alston was to JVG, Ariza will be to RA. I hope that isnt true, but it seems more and more likely by the day.
I dont know about that, guys increase their shooting percentages all the time. Check the hated Karl Malone. He was a 50% FT shooter when his career started, and ended close to 80%. Rafer Alston worked on his layups and teardrops over the course of his last few seasons and got it from about 35% to about 50%. Granted thats still pretty low, but it shows what can be done when working on something. As many 3 point looks as Ariza will get not just this year but next year when Yao is back, it seems like a good idea to work that shot.
I just caught Solomon sitting in for Calvin Murphy. This guy is such a douche. Here's a quote: "The Rockets did a lot more wrong with the Tracy McGrady situation last season than McGrady did."
Last season?? Um.....Unless you count holding a player to his word that he is ready to play. Rockets learned that lesson. Example: This season.
WHO IS THE MOST UNDDERRATED PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE? I THINK ITS TRACY MCGRADY - SINCE HE'S NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO PLAY! THE DUDE SAYS HE CAN DUNK AND THAT HE'S READY TO FREAKIN RUMBLE. 'NUFF SAID.
