It should be clarified because some people don't read the linked articles that Solomon isn't saying anything negative about Ariza. The article is meant to be positive. The thread title is very misleading. I don't have a problem with the article or anything Ariza said. I don't think the guy will ever sniff an All Star game but I actually like what he said. He sounds unselfish, confident and aware of what he needs to do to refine his game. Actually, I'm higher on the guy than ever before. I think there may be more to him than I originally thought but we won't know until he has a summer to work on his game now that he knows what it's like to have the defense focus on him. That's a whole different set of circumstances than shooting hundreds of spot up jumpers in an empty gym all summer.
Classic example of putting words in someones mouth. I appreciate Ariza wanting to become an all-star. Why would you hate a guy for WANTING to be the best. I'm sure he knows how hard he has to work for that and people here are mad about it? Some of your guys amaze me.
Did Yao and T-Mac say they weren't coming back and no one told me about it? Why would you criticize Ariza for trying to be a go-to guy in their absence? They'll be back and he'll revert to being a third or fourth option. In the meantime, the Rockets need for him to step up. That's all he's saying. It will be good experience for him. It seems you're criticizing him for showing confidence. But if he wasn't speaking confidently, you'd be criticizing him for being too timid, not a leader, and saying he needs to step up and try to be a go-to guy in the team's time of need. Sometimes a player just can't win on this board. No matter what they say, it will be the wrong thing. The whole team is still developing. Maybe Ariza will get hot. It's early. The point is, give the guy a break. He's trying to step up his game, and that's what we all want, right?
ariza plasy battier's lvl of defense (if not better due to his athleticism and long arms) if you combine both defense and offense minus the 3 point shots i am convinced that ariza is a borderline all star
Real article title: Solomon: Ariza must demand the ball - positive spin on Ariza Thread title: Solomon: Ariza feeding into his own hype?! - negative spin on Ariza I see what you did there. Tmac blame deflection machine in full force.
The Rockets must be able to close 4th quarters this season. thats it. It doesn't matter how resilient this team is if they can't finish out the game we'll never be able win playoff games (yes, I would contend we are in fact playing to make a splash in the playoffs). Is that not the function of T-Mac? Wasn't he our closer? The guy who's purpose to carry the work load through the brunt of the season. Maybe, we are grooming Ariza to do just that in the absence of McGrady (don't act like you know for fact he is definitively coming back) So, let Ariza jack up his shots.
my opinion is that every team needs a guy to chuck up shots from time to time.. and for us its ariza.. i dont mind that for the fact that he probably the most physically gifted rocket, when it comes to tallness, athletic ability and length. We are not going any where this year so why not see what this guy can become by giving him the ball.
right? It happens all the time in the right enviroment. Hedu Turkoglu went from 9ppg scorer to a 18ppg scorer and got Most improved player.
Wow you guys complain about everything. He shows the will and desire to improve and speaks on getting better, yall clown him. But if he were to say "Im just a role player" or something to that tune, yall would clown him for not showing any desire to get better or some BS like that. I hope he makes an all star team, I think he can do it if he puts in the right amount of work. Being buddy-buddy with Kobe helps too..
And also, the heat that this guy gets from this board you would think he's a max player. Hes getting paid the MLE. The same that we paid guys like Stromile Swift. Hes definitely earning his paycheck, and them some.
grammer>you but thats not true at all. He NEVER used to handle the ball when he was on the kings. He was strictly slasher/ spot up shooter. Same as some other guy on the Rockets that won a championship last year.
that didn't mean he couldn't handle the ball when he came into the league. he wasn't a bad ballhandler like ariza is right now. but if you actually saw hedo play, you saw his playmaking abilities even with the kings. hedo was not simply a spot up shooter/slasher with the kings. he only averaged 1-2 3pt attempts per game as a king. the kings just had one of the best playmaking big men of all time in chris webber in his prime, so hedo was one of their go-to scorers off the bench, along with bobby jackson.
your credibility went down the drain with that comment. i'll GUARANTEE ariza will never even sniff the all-star team. you know an all-star talent when you see one, simply put. i'm not complaining that ariza has the willingness to get better. i love that about him. and he is a very hard worker. but he should try to get better at things he can actually BE GREAT at eventually. why try to do certain things when we know he will never even be average at (creating his own shot, 1-on-1 isolation...). he can be great catch and shoot off screens, midrange game, finishing in traffic off a pass out... he can PERFECT those things because he has shown signs he can do those things at a very good level.
this season for rox is over.why not develop more players? since coach RA and DM take a great expectance for this guy,we d better give him more opportunity,to see how far he would finally develop .so don't care his low shoot rate, have fun to see what going on in this team.
it's not over. we've had the toughest schedule to start the year and we're above .500. after december, our schedule is very manageable. developing players is fine. but you want to develop him in a path where he can improve his already very good skills/talents. but hey, that's just my opinion. i hope he does better because our team will benefit since he takes the most shots on our team.
