Ariza feeding into his own hype is what you take out of this article? I guess you missed out on Read to ****ing Achieve while watching TMac highlights. Let me direct you attention to the paragraphs right above the words you quoted:
Genius. They should hire you as defensive coach for the Spurs - you'd probably call something crazy like "get it out of Brooks' hands and make Ariza shoot it" Oh wait - seems like that's what EVERY coach is saying. So I guess observing the plainly obvious is your strength. Bravo.
Yeah, huh huh. He'd never double his scoring average at this stage of his career. huh huh huh. He wouldn't suddenly 'develop' a 3 point shot in the last 18 months either. huh huh huh.
how about watch the damn game? that's even more proof than this article. and you don't think "all-star" level never came up in the conversation? and solomon just made the whole thing up.
Someone needs to put Solomon down before he plays Iago to Ariza's Macbeth and gets him to murder our season. All Clutchfans on this board are nearly in unison--he's a good player but NOT as a go-to scorer!
i'm scratching my head too. if i was shooting 38%, i tell myself to stop shooting so i wouldn't embarrass myself. i watch the games. i watch how he plays. and from the way he has played with the types of shots he is trying to take, it's not "dramatizing" anything.
Our shooters are streaky, so let's lean on them when the FB points are coming, the 3Ps raining in and all of that (duh). But in the meantime, Scola and Landry seem like our most consistent scoring options, so doesn't it make sense to go to them most often? This seems obvious to me. Also, when we drive aggressively and with good ball movement, we create defensive holse where those guys plus Hayes and Anderson can usually get easy buckets off of misses. It's so fun to watch our offense when we're aggressive and clicking, especially because we aren't overreliant on one guy to get a third of the points every night. Ariza can get his shots and develop as much as his potential will allow, but he should definitely be taking less shots. I feel like his FG% combined with the number of bad and forced shots he makes are hurting the team. That said, so far Morey's had a great eye for talent that nobody else sees, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I just think they should emphasize better shot selection with him, and he often forces bad looks when he tries to create by himself. It can be pathetic to watch at times, really. Somebody compared to watching someone show off at the Y, that's dead on.
Thank you. Solomon believes his own hype, so no surprise in his latest entry. Terrible journalism/blogging is terrible.
Aaron Brooks should be the most selfish player, he is the best offensive player in the starting lineup. DD
Well, being that this is his first season being a starter and a go to guy, I think he is doing fine. Not doing great but pretty much what i expected from a guy trying to become a leading scorer for the team. And as another poster said, it's not like we have many other options, brooks is on and off, scola is more consistent but can dissapear at times too, Landry is the only one so far that night in night out is dependable, one guy isn't good enough.
Aaron Brooks is the man at fault because too often he doesn't come out firing. Everybody should be getting their shots after Aaron Brooks has either got the jumper going or he has found the seams and is getting to the rim and forcing the defense to have to adjust for him and overplay to the point where Ariza can then do his thing. Brooks is NOT AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH. The defense opens the game by light trapping him off the screens and he simply gives up the ball and lets it happen instead of keeping his dribble and going through a couple more screens to get the shot or the drive. For this team to go to the next level, Brooks has to step up and assert himself and FORCE the defense to have to overextend themselves to stop him so that his teammates then truly do become wide open for better looks. When this happens, Ariza's efficiency will jump.
Everybody should read this before they start posting about the team. Somehow we win a few games against a couple of weak teams and people want to judge us like T-Mac and Yao are in the lineup and healthy and we are only a .500 team struggling and underachieving. What happen to the understanding that this year we KNOW we are not contenders and will be lucky to make the playoffs? This is that SAME team yah know. We all knew going in that players like AB, Ariza, Scola, Landry, and Battier would be asked to do things outside of their comfort zones to try and develop to help us win SOME GAME (not a title). This is what they are doing. Their will be bumps on the road of development. Chill the f*%& out with all the criticism.
AB's great when he actually goes to the basket. If he stays aggressive like he did against OKC in the 2nd half, then I'd like to see him keep creating. Unfortunately, he's gotten into the habit of dribbling around at the top of the key and jacking up a contested three. If he's settling for pull up 3's with a man in his face, I'd just as soon see Ariza go to the hoop and miss a layup. Carl Landry and others picked up a lot of easy buckets against OKC when a big man had to come over and contest Ariza's drives. A lot of the layups missed, but they led to easy baskets and free throws for teammates. There are hidden benefits (tangible ones) when attacking the rim. There aren't very many for pull up threes.
