While I would agree that most of these artists are "dated" and irrelevant a good number of them have released albums within the past 5 years.
Some of them may be dated but they are not irrelevant. If you ask the guys you consider "relevant" I'm sure they would agree.
I didn't say that they were all irrelevant, but a good number of them are. Please see Sheryl Crow or Rod Stewart for further details.
Fatty, Well I don't really give a rat's ass if you think people are current or relevant, okay? I tried to do this thing right by involving some other people that I feel know more music than myself. Doing something like this is not going to be easy but it is just for fun. Yet you are always going to have someone who has to ruin it for everyone else with their whining/moaning/complaining. Makes me regret ever doing it. But I am not going to let you ruin it. So, if you have a problem with this tourney, just don't post in any of the threads. I am trying to be nice and not come across as combative, but your schtick of acting like a major jackass with these things is really getting old, man. Just cut the bull****, out. And, I am not kidding, either.
Hope that Lennon is included solo as well. You can write in my vote for him now. Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 8) Tom Waits 12) Pete Townshend 4) Leonard Cohen 6) Jim Croce 3) Stevie Wonder 7) Paul McCartney 15) George Harrison Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 9) Aretha Franklin 5) Rod Stewart 13) Cat Stevens 11) Lou Reed 3) Frank Zappa - my hero 10) Van Morrison 15) Warren Zevon - I'm with Batman on this one
Don't let them get ya down manny... I wouldn't have even been able to think of that many solo artists, lol.
You've been the one calling me out consistently. Not vice-versa. As I've said before, I take people's comments with a grain of salt. You think I'm "Ruining" your tournament? Wow. I guess I've been the only one here making comments, hmmm? I stated before that I like this idea. I surely haven't been the only one complaing when one of my bands gets booted. I thought you saw the humor. Apparently not. However, my comments aren't directly aimed at you, but the board, so get over it. As for this thread, I stated earlier that I may have spoken too soon. Half the artists haven't been mentioned yet. However, you do tend to have a certain affinity for the 60's and 70's right now, and it is reflected. I lightheartedly poked fun with the AC/DC tournament. Obviously you didn't get it. I doubt most people would think I've been a major jackass. Lighten up. Funny, that's exactly how you came across.
I know I'll probably jinx it, but nothing would kick more ass than Sheryl Crow getting completely shut out by Elvis.... ...well, except for Weird Al being in this thing. Of course, with my luck, he'll probably be a 16 seed going up against Bob Dylan.
I am only calling you out because you keep running an old joke into the ground by your so-called "complaining". Well, when you make your insipid comments and talk out of your ass in threads that I start, then I will make it my business. I don't care if you do that garbage in threads that you start such as "Wow, I'm Great" or "Ain't I a Genius" or "Best AC/DC Song, the Final". Once again, I did this tourney with help from Batman Jones and mc mark and we tried to do this field as fairly as possible, using rock music as the primary genre. The bottom line, Fatty, is that if you really want to keep this field with only current artists, i.e. ones from the last 10 years or so, you are going to have a really lame tourney that is going to spill over into the pop arena. Besides, how would you know who is current anyway? I mean you have only told the board countless number of times how much you hate the radio. Do you actually listen to the radio after all? I wouldn't be so sure about that one. The bottom line is you can say whatever you want - I obviously cannot stop you from typing inane stuff from your computer. But if you are going to talk out of your ass (which you did when you said "Could you come up with any solo artist from the last two decades????), then I along with others are going to call you on it. That is what annoys me more than anything, man. You acting like you know what you are talking about, when you really don't have a clue. Gee, I feel better now arguing with someone over the Internet who goes by the name of "Fatty FatBastard". Okay, enough of that - last scoring update before voting closes at 9 P.M. CST tonight. Presley 39, Crow 0 SRV 23, Waits 16 Simon 24, Townshend 13 Cohen 27, Donovan 9 Redding 23, Croce 14 Wonder 37, Raitt 1 McCartney 25, Lewis 14 Marley 26, Harrison 12 Hendrix 34, Harper 4 Franklin 31, Drake 7 Stewart 25, Bush 13 Brown 30, Stevens 8 Holly 23, Reed 15 Zappa 32, Bragg 5 Gabriel 19, Morrison 18 Prince 32, Zevon 4
It's not "an old joke". I say how I feel. Quite testy today. I'm not talking out of my butt. Sorry you're taking it that way. Did I say "only"? Nope. I would like to see "some" included. Hmmmmm. Now it is you who doesn't have a clue. I've listened almost exclusively to the radio since about 1977. My friends know this. We've had several "stump the Schwab" times in the past where I've had people tell me a song to see if I remember the words. You would be obviously amazed at how much music I've memorized, much less know. Our tastes differ, but let's not go to petty name calling, if you don't know. Again Manny, lighten up! Quit taking everything so seriously. I know I don't. [/B][/QUOTE]
Okay, I'll give you the radio as I did forget - it is just CDs that you never listen to. Sorry. But you did talk out of your ass about current artists when I showed you a list of 18 out of 32 artists that have released an album in the last 20 years. Quit living in denial.
I'm not in denial. I'm sure David Cassidy could release an album this year. It doesn't mean he's current. I'm not mad, and I haven't been playing the same schtick. I am very passionate about the music I like. We just have vastly different tastes. I would think you could respect that.
while FFB does have a tendency to come off as a jerk from time to time, he is right in that almost all of the people in the first half were in their "heyday" a good 20 years in the past or more. plenty of people release albums forever, but being "current/relevant" is, of course, completely different and only crow and harper (and kate bush if i knew who that was) can be said to be current. so while people don't really want people complaining about something that i'm sure it took some time and effort to come up with (and that i sure as hell am too lazy to do), he wasn't wrong about the past-centricness of the tourney so far. and listening to the radio and mp3's and not CD's is the way to go. i don't know how y'all have the time and patience to listen to whole CD's all the way through on a consistent basis.
