Let's skip all the bull**** and get down to who should this should really be about: Jimi vs Dylan Dylan wins based on volume. Jimi died way too early. He had so much more to give. All these stupid voting things are boring as hell. Why can't we just have a thread where we discuss what songs mean to each person on this BBS. Music is an ART, not a freakin popularity contest. What songs touch YOUR heart. What songs MEAN the most to YOU.
Aw, man. I clicked on this thread looking forward to reading Finn*'s votes and all I got was this crappy lecture. Kind of reminds me of watching the Rockets last night in a local dive bar. Some old drunk started up a conversation with me just so he could ask me why I liked pro basketball and to tell me how stupid it was. Finn* thinks these tourneys are stupid. Duly noted. He also instructs us to only talk about music the way he thinks it should be talked about. Let's get on that, guys.
LOL, I knew you would take it like that BJ. Sorry man. I just think that music is so much more than these crappy voting threads. Music means so much to so many people on this BBS and I would love to hear how music has touched everyones lives. I have my opinions but by no means am I limited. I love hearing how some song has touched someones life, I will listen to said song. Music breaks down all the boundries of all cultures. I just think these voting threads are so limited. And I am too lazy to start a thread on what music has touched your life, and I am very suprised this has never been done on this BBS.

No biggie, Bob*. I've got the same beef with the ones that post in the D&D just to tell people not to post in the D&D, but I don't care that much. If you do, though, why don't you start the thread you'd rather read? I love it when pasox2 posts comments on the acts. I disagree with most of them, but they're still hilarious.

Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 9) Stevie Ray Vaughn 12) Pete Townshend 4) Leonard Cohen 13) Donovan Abstain, I have never heard of either. 6) Jim Croce 3) Stevie Wonder 7) Paul McCartney 15) George Harrison (oddly enough, I'm not a big Beatles fan, but I love a lot of their individual solo stuff. Go figure.) Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 9) Aretha Franklin 5) Rod Stewart 4) James Brown 11) Lou Reed 3) Frank Zappa 7) Peter Gabriel 2) Prince

But I felt bad posting in the thread and not voting. And the reason I had to post in the thread were many: but most especially: Hello, pasox2. I'm Zac D, and we'll be sworn enemies from this day forth.
I think the comments that rockets #1 makes are even better: 5) Paul Simon 12) Pete Townshend I don't know anything by these guys. I thought Simon was more of a group specifically 'cause he was with Garfunkle. Guess you never heard of "You Can Call Me Al" or "50 Ways to Leave your Lover"? 3) Stevie Wonder 14) Bonnie Raitt I know 0 songs by both combined, can't judge. You got to be f*cking kidding me? You never heard of "Superstition", "My Cherie Amour", "Part-Time Lover", "You Are the Sunshine of my Life", etc, etc, etc??!! And I thought everyone had heard of "Something to Talk About" by Raitt - it just won her a grammy (but maybe that is why since it was a grammy ) 2) Bob Marley 15) George Harrison Harrison had like one hit (I've Got My Mind Set On You) and that's about it, right? Everyone should probably own the "Bob Marley: Legend" CD, so that they have a taste of Reggae in their collection. I guess "My Sweet Lord" and "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" don't count? Too bad that wasn't the case or it could saved George a lot of money and headaches from getting sued for "My Sweet Lord". 7) Peter Gabriel 10) Van Morrison Again, not enough knowledge. "Sledgehammer"??, "Brown Eyed Girl"??!! Should be a fun tourney!! I hope George Clinton is in this. He is now. Scoring update through Zac's picks (next update will be sometime tomorrow morning): Elvis Presley 19, Sheryl Crow 0 Stevie Ray Vaughn 13, Tom Waits 6 Paul Simon 10, Pete Townshend 8 Leonard Cohen 12, Donovan 5 Jim Croce 10, Otis Redding 8 Stevie Wonder 17, Bonnie Raitt 1 Paul McCartney 11, Jerry Lee Lewis 8 Bob Marley 13, George Harrison 6 Jimi Hendrix 19, Ben Harper 0 Aretha Frankin 15, Nick Drake 4 Rod Stewart 11, Kate Bush 8 James Brown 15, Cat Stevens 4 Buddy Holly 12, Lou Reed 7 Frank Zappa 16, Billy Bragg 2 Peter Gabriel 9, Van Morrison 9 Prince 18, Warren Zevon 1
can you change my vote from Townshend to Paul Simon? i just really quickly thought of "let my love open the door" and gave it to pete but completely forgot about "you can call me al" (which is amazing considering how much i've listened to it) and now i wanna vote for Simon.
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley *** 16) Sheryl Crow 8) Tom Waits *** 9) Stevie Ray Vaughn 5) Paul Simon 12) Pete Townshend *** 4) Leonard Cohen *** 13) Donovan 6) Jim Croce 11) Otis Redding *** 3) Stevie Wonder *** 14) Bonnie Raitt 7) Paul McCartney *** 10) Jerry Lee Lewis 2) Bob Marley 15) George Harrison *** Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix *** 16) Ben Harper 8) Nick Drake **** 9) Aretha Franklin 5) Rod Stewart *** 12) Kate Bush 4) James Brown *** 13) Cat Stevens 6) Buddy Holly 11) Lou Reed ********** 3) Frank Zappa *** 14) Billy Bragg 7) Peter Gabriel *** 10) Van Morrison 2) Prince uhn, no vote 15) Warren Zevon
If Sheryl freaking Crow makes this list Trent Reznor better be in the second half. Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 9) Stevie Ray Vaughn 12) Pete Townshend 4) Leonard Cohen 11) Otis Redding 3) Stevie Wonder 7) Paul McCartney 2) Bob Marley Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 8) Nick Drake 12) Kate Bush 13) Cat Stevens 11) Lou Reed 3) Frank Zappa 7) Peter Gabriel 2) Prince
Sure To anyone who wants to change their vote - don't edit your original post - just post a new one telling me of your vote change.
I'm SOOOOOO glad Manny is monitoring the tourneys again I had forgotten how fun it was to JUST VOTE BTW, Take your lame ass to the final of the Alt battle of the bands and vote if you have not already,. The Pixies and the VU are virtually tied and it ends tomorrow. TIA WIN
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley - i don't like sheryl crow. 9) Stevie Ray Vaughn - one of my favorite guitarists, not in my top five but my dad made me listen to him a long time ago and i'm glad he did. 5) Paul Simon - i love the who but i can't name one townshend solo song off the top of my head, though i'm sure i've heard something. 3) Stevie Wonder - i only know like 5 of his songs but superstition is enough to keep him going. 7) Paul McCartney - macca as a beatle is my favorite artist of all time but some of his solo stuff i just don't get. however he does have a couple handfuls of GREAT songs. whoever said he hasnt heard any of his solo stuff, just didn't know it was a paul song. 2) Bob Marley - i love george harrison but not so much as a solo artist. Bracket C:
Elvis Waits Simon Donovan Redding Wonder McCartney Harrison Hendrix Franklin Stewart Brown Holly Bragg Morrison Prince
Originally posted by Manny Ramirez I think the comments that rockets #1 makes are even better: Most these guys are before my time. I wish I knew more. Guess you never heard of "You Can Call Me Al" or "50 Ways to Leave your Lover"? I'll keep those in mind; I'll search for them. You got to be f*cking kidding me? You never heard of "Superstition", "My Cherie Amour", "Part-Time Lover", "You Are the Sunshine of my Life", etc, etc, etc??!! And I thought everyone had heard of "Something to Talk About" by Raitt - it just won her a grammy (but maybe that is why since it was a grammy ) Okay, I do know Something to Talk About, I just don't own it. I guess "My Sweet Lord" and "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" don't count? Too bad that wasn't the case or it could saved George a lot of money and headaches from getting sued for "My Sweet Lord". I'll get those, too; thanks for the suggestions there. "Sledgehammer"??, "Brown Eyed Girl"??!! Did say not enough, I actually am familiar with those, ha.
