    On topic, I think it's very necessary and essential to success to fraternize with co-workers.

    It seems to depend on what you mean by socializing with co-workers. I think it is helpful to be at least friendly and actually being friends isn't bad either. But if you aren't really friends with them some types of social behaviour (very heavy drinking, for example) can be harmful to your career if witnessed by a co-worker. On that point, it probably is more harmful to women than to men. Honestly, what would you think of a female co-worker hooking up with some man she just met at a bar?
