That's right, immigrants moved into this country and at 65 got SSI Social Security. The Democratic Party gave that to them although they never paid a dime into it.

I'm just starting to read this thread. Here's an incorrect "fact" that isn't a fact regardless of who did it.

The idiots who created the e-mail saw the words Social Security and SSI together so they just thought it was out of the social security trust fund. This is the problem with bumper sticke deep knowlege of issues.

SSI is managed by Social Security. It is a welfare program for the old and or disabled.

Fact the money for SSI comes out of general revenues. It is not Social Security money.

I guess this is what Franken's book was about, huh?

Don't worry about T_J, he has a serious aversion to legitimate, credible sources. I mean, he compared an article written by a Ph.D. Economocs professor at Princeton to taking fiscal advice from Barbara Streisand. Then he slunk away with his tail between his legs without providing his own credentials.

Then there was the guy from Waco that he raised on high. If you want credible sources, don't look T_J's way.

    OWNED

Not that I ever have to, as my supreme intellect is rarely questioned, but there is absolutely no question that Paul Krugman has risen to prominance through his economic texts. Foreign affairs is a sidebar for him, and without economics, he's teaching at a community college somewhere.

Andymoon -- I find it absurd for you to discredit anyone simply because they have spent time in Waco. Ray Perryman is a distinguished economist who wrote the very persuasive piece on why he is voting YES on Prop 12. If you discredit everyone from Waco, you are insulting Shannon Elizabeth, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Steve Martin, and a man whose intellect dwarfs yours, the one and only Trader_Jorge.

    Yawn

Yeah, as in you are owned by the right.

Actually, your "supreme intellect" is questioned quite often right here on this board. The point is that you did compare the opinion of a PhD economist from Princeton to that of Barbara Streisand. You didn't have an intelligent response backed up by any kind of evidence so you threw out some tripe as usual.

I find it absurd that you discredit everyone that has an opinion other than yours by calling them a "liberal," part of the "liberal media," or some other nonsense. When it comes to the topics we discuss in this forum, all the people from Waco you mentioned are easily discredited, including you since you continue to aviod providing YOUR credentials.

BTW, the reason I dissed Perryman was because I compared his qualifications to the qualifications of the source that you pooh-poohed in another thread and found them sorely lacking. Perryman has a Bachelor's degree, not a PhD, has taught for Baylor and SMU (heck, I taught for SMU) as opposed to MIT and Princeton, and won a series of awards that sound like something he made up versus...

Nevermind, you are too blind to see it anyway.

DEAD WRONG. Perryman has a PhD in Economics from Rice. You continue to attempt to mislead others through your incorrect information. When will it end? It will take you quite some time to recover from your latest bold faced lie.

Regardless of Political Ideals or Affiliations, Social Security is a bad idea.

Why should the government force us to save? If we make money we should learn to save part of it and use it when we get older. If we don't, then we have to pay the consequences.

I think is is great that people can invest tax free with IRA's and that the contribution limits are rising. This is the government telling us that a federal pension is not going to help you to survive old age. You MUST save for yourself. I just don't understand what the government is doing.

That and the political nature of social security disables its ability to work. Even the payments are way too high. With them being tied to the CPI (Consumer Price Index), there are HUGE bias' that occur. SS Payments are meant to 'maintain' a standard of living, but as goods become more and more advanced, SS payments actually constantly rise at a higher rate to increase their standard of living.

If you don't save money during your lifetime, then you will starve when you are old. This is a very simply concept, and the government should not foot the bill for individuals lack of willpower. All this will do is teach another generation that they don't have to save.

Bad Lesson. Teach the people, don't politically benefit from their ignorance.

Ohhhh. And that makes him more qualified than a PhD Economist from Princeton (who has taught at MIT) in what way?

Are you embarrassed to provide your own qualifications? Why do you keep avoiding that question?

You continue to miss the point andymoon. After your embarrassing indecent exposure on your lie regarding Perryman's education, you still have not learned your lesson. The comparison between Perryman and Krugman is laughably irrelevant. Perryman was cited for his article in support of Prop 12. Krugman has not opined on the issue. Perryman has, and quite effectively. A comparison of the two has no bearing on this issue.

You could take that cynical approach to the situation Mulder, or you could also rationally expect Perryman to want medical care for his children. Voting YES on Prop 12 will ensure that doctors stay in Texas and not flee to other states.

Again, your post is immaterial to the debate between andymoon and myself, in which I have decisively SHAMED him and EXPOSED his lies.

Cynical approach?! I'm sorry I don't trust lobbyists for big corporations to be looking out for my best interests. If this bill was JUST about malpractice insurance awards for doctors it would be different.

Oh and I'm sorry I stepped in between you and andy during your pissing contest. I figured since you had brought up Perryman and the social security "debate" was all but over I could make a comment about the fact that there might be an alterior motive to Perryman backing Prop 12. Tell you what I'll post this in the other thread as well.
I apologize for posting in your thread... Oh wait no I don''t... I forgot.. this isn't YOUR message board you megalomaniac.

I am feeling a twinge of PITY FOR TRADER_JORGE. Weird.

If you read TJ's posts as comedy, like I do, he is unquestionably the funniest poster on this BBS.

I love reading his posts. They are hilarious.

Here, I'll lob one over the plate for him:

"Many historians believe that Bill Clinton will be remembered as one of the three greatest presidents in American history."
