The teams are set, with Czech Republic the last one. Being the first time that there are four (4) teams from our CONCACAF ever, this is possible. The U.S. will be one, while another could be lowly Trinidad or Costa Rica. No way they put Mexico and U.S. together, because FIFA wants to have them play again in the second round. Congrats, blokes! See you in Germany, Smegster...!
Breakdown in regions looks like this : UEFA : 14 teams (France,England,Germany,Croatia,Czech Rep.,Spain,Italy,Ukraine,Serbia & Montenegro,Holland,Poland,Switzerland,Sweden and Portugal) AFRICA: 5 teams (Ghana,Tunisia,Ivory Coast,Togo and Angola) ASIA : 4 teams (Japan,Saudi Arabia,S. Korea and Iran) CONCACAF : 4 teams (USA,Mexico,Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago) CONEMBOL : 4 teams (Brasil,Argentina,Paraguay and Ecuador) OCEANIA : 1 team (Australia) So it looks inevitable that Africa,Asia,Conembol or Concacaf will have 2 teams in one group. I will be very curious to see what UEFA team gets lucky to get into what would be a cakewalk of a group considering the teams. I find it hard to believe that there will be a "true" group of death like the Nigeria,Sweden,Argentina & England group of 2002. I was wondering if anyone out there knew the exact date of the draw. All I know is that it will be next month. 8 countries will be going to their 1st World Cup.
Explain your logic. The way I see it, with 6 groups, CONCACAF could spread all teams... there never have been 2 concacaf teams playing each other since the 32-team format... that's as far as I remember back... El nueve de diciembre en Leipzig.
Actually it's not inevitable as I said, because there is a way to have all the other regions(except UEFA of course) represented only once in the 8 groups (A thru H) of 4 teams each. But since the draw is supposed to be random, I should have said that there is a possibility of it happening.
I'm verry happy that Australia made it. I'm also happy that T&T made it, i like the fact that 4 dutch coaches will be in the world cup.
