:( Why? I am not starting a political war here. If it were Bush, Clinton, Obama, Lincoln or Washington, I'd still be mad. You would NEVER hear Mexico's president say "I would not bet on my own team", ever. Take it however you want, then. You guys already tied in the '90s... you don't remember that? Costa Rica beat us. We ARE beatable a home. Why can't he BELIEVE in his team?

I don't bet money. I know my team will do well but, if I were betting, I wouldn't tell the press "I don't believe in my own country's team" like Obama did. It is not "the Tri's", sir, it's "El Tri." ;)

Last time I bet something other than money here, I won, but it left a bad taste in my mouth even after winning.

Thanks for the props, halfbreed. I hadn't noticed until now. I knew people would ask the same questions we get ALL THE TIME when we do a Qualifying thread, so it was just prevention.

Do you always notify the press when placing wagers on sporting events? And since when does "I wouldn't bet any money on it" = " I don't believe in my owns country's team"? please explain? Using your own "logic", that would mean that you don't believe in "El" Tri as well.

    Swoly,

Don't you live in the USA, and are a US citizen? Doesn't that make you a traitor to the USA team?

    ;)

Call me a traitor but I would always root for Mexico no matter what country gives me citizenship. Hey at least I still contribute my taxes to this country ;).

No, I never notify anyone because, I will tell you again, I never bet money. Again, I told you, I know that I would always believe that my country's team can beat your team. Now, if I am wrong, it's a disappointment. But if I am the leader of a country and I am supposed to instill some confidence and belief on my country's team, I wouldn't say "I wouldn't bet on it."

When have I said "I wouldn't bet on MEXICO beating USA at a US stadium"?? We've beaten you in the U.S. and you've never beaten us in MEXICO. Wise up. If your country's president uses the word "BET", it's up to him, but he at least should have said: "yeah, our team can beat Mexico, we're improving... the loss at Giants Stadium was 'a fluke' because we had a B team" or some bull crap like that. He didn't say anything even close to being optimistic for Wednesday's game. What, afraid to be WRONG, Mr. President?

I am no traitor, DaDarkOne. I would be a traitor if I turned my back on my country. You see, it's not the Stars and Stripes, it's Mexico. I'll support the U.S. when they're not playing El Tri. Don't tell me you'll quit being a Rockets' fan and become a Sharks fan if you moved to Shanghai and became a Chinese citizen?

Support for your NATIONAL TEAM is a lot more stronger in Soccer than in any other sport. You all know that.

Remember, ask for WEDNESDAY afternoon off!

So, what are you saying, plcmts17, do you want to enter a friendly wager? There are plenty of Mexico fans here, including ME, who can show support for their team.

Comcast is also making mun2 available on Wednesday, so if you have Comcast, DirecTV, or Dish you shouldn't have a problem getting the game in English.

DaDa, I know you DIDN'T just ask that. For real, you don't know? :D

Any other pubs showing the game or having promotional "happy hours" to show it?

I know there's a Club Rio on Clay and HWY6 that's offering free fajitas for all during the game on the west side.

ok swoly - you don't bet money ever on Mexico, but online wagers are ok. I know the president is supposed to set an example but you are way too sensitive about this game and el tri in particular. I wouldn't bet any money on the US winning BUT I want them to win as badly as you want Mexico to win. I believe the President feels the same way. If you want to think what he said is a big issue or whatever that is your problem.

It's only a game......actually I know that for Mexico, this isn't a game. It could be a catharsis or a national disaster. The pressure is all them and everyone knows this is the case.

So if you want to bet, you are on. How about this: The United States wins or ties and you can NOT post in any soccer thread for the rest of World Cup qualifications AND you are NOT to use ANY emoticons for the rest of the calendar year (until Dec. 31st Midnight).

If Mexico wins I will not post anywhere on this site for the rest of the calendar year and I will rep you (If I'm allowed of course).

I will be on a plane to Houston in the morning, so as long as you have a reply in before game time - I will honor the bet. How about it swoly?

If swoly and Obama don't bet money why should I? I'm only betting swoly since it was his idea in the first place.
