Finally got to see Carlos Vela (11) and Giovanni Dos Santos (19) play for the Mexican team. These kids have LOADS of talent. Mexico has a bright future.

Two People Shot Outside Reliant Stadium After USA-Mexico Friendly

Two men are expected to survive gunshot wounds following an incident after a soccer match at Reliant Stadium Wednesday night.

After the U.S. and Mexico game ended, a man got out of a vehicle and fired two rounds into a large crowd, striking Raul Edgar Belmon, 28, and Manuel Elgua, 36, as they left the west entrance of the stadium, authorities said.

"Right now the motive remains unclear until we re-interview the two victims and the witness," said HPD spokesman John Cannon. "Hopefully we'll have somebody come forward and contact us or Crime Stoppers."

The victims said they were chanting "Mexico, Mexico" as they left the stadium when suddenly they saw a man get out of a maroon car and fire toward them. Witnesses said they saw what appeared to be a beer bottle or can thrown from the crowd toward the car before a man got out of the passenger side and fired shots.

"It's hard to tell whether these two guys were even the intended target of the suspect if the suspect was firing into a group of people because a beer had been thrown at the car or some other reason," Cannon said.

Elgua was shot in his lower back. Belmon was shot in his left thigh. Both were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

More than 70,000 fans were on hand Wednesday to watch the U.S. and Mexico spar in a soccer match that ended with a 2-2 tie.

One witness reported seeing emergency medical personnel and police gathered near the west entrance of the stadium.

Police are searching for a maroon, 1992, 4-door Pontiac Bonnevile. Anyone with information is urged to call HPD's Major Assaults at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous.

By far the worst non call was the tri player who went studs first into Howard. Thankfully he didn't make contact. It's crap like that that is moving the tris up the list to my most despised national side.

It felt like watching the previous games, but in person. It seemed that we stopped the counter-attacks by the EE.UU., but they still were very dangerous. Johnny Magallón was eating Moore's lunch all night. I think that if you want to say that Mexico controlled the ball, you CAN say that, but if you control the ball, you should be able to score as well.

surrender, I agree. That was a slight push, but not worthy of a warning by the Hondurian ref.
You're talking about Mr. Guillermo Ochoa, leader of FMF's CD América, on the cover of FIFA Soccer '08, and a heavily scouted goalie for the EPL. He wasn't the problem. No one covered GOOCH on the header after the throw-in, and Altidore beat Marquez to the punch. Both goals were unreachable and OCHOA was on the place where you can't beat him, unless scores were made the way they were made. From where I was sitting, GOOCH's header was a thing of beauty; I don't even know if he did that on purpose, but a goal is a goal. Hats off to the big feller.

In contrast, there weren't any really dangerous "saves" any of the goalies could do. The stats show HOWARD making more saves because of more shots by Mexico than Estados Unidos.

Good game overall, wished we would have broken ya'll streak, but no cigar.

Like I have stated before, it should be a ONE-game-here, ONE-game-there from now on... I'm hating having to see ANY people from the U.S. and A. on the stands. :) It should be fair. Whether it's in a smog-filled high-altitude stadium, or a cold-as-winter venue, they should alternate and make it exciting. I can't see why FMF guy Compeán and Gulati are not agreeing on a ONE-to-ONE home ratio. Still, I love Reliant Stadium... that's the only place where the U.S. and A. hasn't beaten MEXICO.

You might have the advantage of the last decade, but at least we can say we have beaten ya'll here before.

I think the yellow was because it was to break up a dangerous situation, if the Mexican gets by him he's into the box. If that same foul happens at midfield or with more defenders around it's probably not a yellow.

I was baffled by the yellow on Altidore, it looked like he was just trying to fend off defenders while holding onto the ball and he ended up with a yellow card.

Altidore's was more for the succession of fouls he had a short period of time. It was a deserved card.

mexico had more shots on goal but howard clearly demonstrated his abilities. he made several acrobatic stops that made my jaw drop.

ochoa seemed to just give up and not even try, especially when dempsy scored the goal that was called back. the gooch goal wasnt his fault and altidore had a great shot. but the dempsy shot should have been stopped.

or maybe i just think ochoa looks silly w/ his curly hair. :D

I haven't seen a replay, but I think Dempsey's shot was deflected and caught him going the wrong way.

But Tim Howard did have one hell of a game, and we needed it from him.

TIE = LOSS to me. Please take a look at how many times the Estados Unidos has won in Mexico  .
He didn't call out for the ball long enough before it got there in the first half, and the public let him know, booing him for letting his defender get hit. As a former goalie, I wouldn't have done that to my own player. :( I didn't like that from him. I have to see the replay to see how early he called that ball. He can't say "it was noisy"--or any other excuse--helped the miscommunication.

He didn't have ANYTHING to save. Most Mexican shots were weak, yet they make the "stat" sheet ya'll like to keep (most Mexican football fans won't care who's got "saves" or who's got a "clean sheet"). Neither did OCHOA, for that matter. I'll check out how that looked on TV, danny317.

At least we don't have to hear any more from Mexican fans claiming Ochoa is a better GK than Howard.

How do you arrive at that?

Tie = Mexico can't get over the US hump. I bet IF and I mean IF mexico had won this game, you would be hearing how mexico had finally figured how to beat the US on its own soil again and a bunch of other BS.

It's becoming more important to the tris than the US since there are fewer games being played in mexico. But as far as WC qualifiers are concerned, our record in Mexico doesn't really matter. We have managed to qualify for the WC since 1990 and haven't won a game in mexico.

When the US does win in mexico (specifically the Azteca) it will be more of a blow than if mexico were ever to win here again.

And even with the LATE "offside call" , I like how Dempsey was still able to keep the ball away from three tris and still score from outside the box

If you cannot see why Tim Howard is the #1 GK in CONCACAF, then there's not much I'd be able to say that would convince you.

Ochoa may be good in the future but right now he's just not in the same class as Howard.

I enjoyed the game a lot...Lots of scoring in spurts in the first half and yes, the Dempsey goal was robbery...

    Overall, USA still owns...
