Great first half! USA looking really good. Hope Donovan and Pope heal quickly, and that Wolf's injury isn't too severe.

    Fixed it for ya.
Both teams have had their chances. I think the US is playing very well and can win this game or leave with a tie if they step it up a bit. They have to do better at their crosses in order to be more effective because the US has had many chances and have had only one good cross to show for it.

Well so much for that. Germany scores on a lame goal, it was a cross that no one touched.

Wheels have definetly come off for this inexperienced USA team.

Oh well, this is what I expected. With all our best players not playing tonight, it was a night for Bruce Arenas to evaluate the other guys. Who will make the squad etc....

    4-0 Ger

Hopefully this is more of a wakeup call for us than Germany. It shows that we have lots of work to do if we want to win a big game in Europe.

USA finally scores. Eddie took out the Germany Goalie for the score.

Not all that much, considering our stars aren't playing tonight. Too many injuries right now.

I'm not saying that we don't have to do some work, I mean there's always work to be done. But I like our team this year.

WE have a much more deep team thanks to the MLS the last few years. USA did awesome in the last WC. I'm looking for somethign similar this year.

So in other words, this game with the US not having their stars is sorta like watching the Rockets right now, huh?

Eh, they played a full strength team, were at home and basically had to win to appease their fans. We were just trying to figure out which fringe players were good enough to make the WC squad.

That will be just one blemish on the U.S. 2006 record (one loss). No problemo.

I freakin' hate Telemundo. They call themselves "La Casa en Español de la Selección de todos: Estados Unidos" and they don't even have it live. It will be replayed tonight after the news at 10:30 if anybody cares to watch it.

They will have the Mexico vs. Paraguay game at 7:30 .

Late last summer, there were a few of us talking about the upcoming WC this summer. Some people around us heard us, and this is how the conversation went:

Guy 1: What the hells the world cup, what are those guys talking about?

Guy 2: They are talking about soccer.

Guy 1: You know I heard someone call it football. More like the fake football. American football came first anyway. Why do they call it football? Atleast in American football they use their feet  . Soccer is not a real sport.

Guy 2: Laughs. [End of conversation]

I was about to turn and say something to him about how stupid he is and does he even know what soccer is, but then decided not to because I figured he had to be joking. I dont think anyone can be that stupid, or atleast I hope not.

Convey, Gibbs, Mastroeni, and Cherundolo all played well and are pretty much locks for the final roster. The rest of the team had a good first half but couldn't keep it up and some of them wouldn't be playing if not for injuries. It was disappointing to lose but not that surprising considering the situation.

Did anybody else notice the ticker at the bottom saying Reyna was out 3-4 weeks with an injured shoulder? Seeing stuff like that this close to the World Cup makes me nervous.

Yeah, I noticed that, and have known about the injured shoulder since Saturday, when he was taken off during Man City's match. I'm not too worried about it though, an injured shoulder is much better than having any type of leg problems at this point.

BTW, in case any of you haven't heard, John O'Brien is currently fully fit and in negotiations with an unnamed MLS team. That's great news for our midfield, he was brilliant in Korea, but hasn't been healthy since. We'll need Reyna, O'Brien and Mastroeni healthy if we hope to make a run in Germany.

I'd heard Reyna went off injured but didn't know why or how long he'd be out. This shouldn't affect his WC spot but it still worries me to see key players get injured so close to the WC.

It seems like JOB has been injured since the last World Cup, it's good to see him ready to play again. Hopefully he'll end up playing for Houston. ;)

Sorry about that. I mistakenly said MEX would play PARAGUAY, but that's not until next week on Wednesday.

The U.S. game will be on tonight on Telemundo, though.
