SwoLy-D, thanks for giving the US credit. Mexico had most of the possession but the US made the most of their chances.

I'll be sure to let you know next time we get together. There were Mexicans that played and there weren't any problems, most people know not to take the actions of some to represent all. There were about 40 people were I was watching the game, about 50/50 US/Mexico supporters, and we all got along. We gave each other crap during the game, but before and after it was all good fun.

This is all over MEXICAN newstands:
http://www.oem.com.mx/esto - if you can understand a bit of Spanish, look at the poll on the left of this here page. This is the top SPORTS newspaper in my country.
"The Same Stone" (meaning you were dumb enough to trip over a stone... then you like a dumbass again tripped over the same stone...)
MEXICO trips again with [sic] US, now 2-0
Phoenix, Arizona, 2/7 - Donovan escaped quickly, eluded Oswaldo and got the 2-0 score for US over México.
HUGO: "I liked [the way] my team [played]"
    The REF ashamed.

For the MEXICAN reporter's point of view: http://www.oem.com.mx/esto/notas/n163060.htm.
He calls Landon "the 'hated' Donovan". :D If you'd like, I can translate. He basically says what we all say... Mexico skill, USA with smart play, Mexico can't finish, USA spoils HUGO's start.

The USA dudes have figured out how to win against us SMARTLY, not "skilled" or "better", but that's a win, and they deserve the credit, DrLudicrous.

    F*CK. I AM P1553D...

Why is winning smartly not being a better team? Being a good team has not ever been about being the most skilled. African nations have some of the most skilled players in the world. Where has that gotten them?

Domination...Pwned...however you want to say it, USA just finds a way to win...Pathetic 1st half, great 2nd half...

I don't like the classless dirty attempt by Sanchez or the fact that the Mexican players didn't shake hands, but there is definitely a need for some changes in Mexico...I think the Mexican players are more skilled, but not a team...

Its kinda funny to see this game and England vs. Spain...No comparison on the talent and skill level...

    USA, USA, USA!!!

btw, I recorded over Lost with this game while watching this match...

Because in the pitch, you play SMARTLY, you get called a wimp or a wuss. You bring EVERYTHING, attack and score, and that's how you're a better team. US likes to cradle themselves into a hole, wait for counterattack, take advantage of less defenders, WAIT, WAIT, STRIKE... they're not better at passing and overall skill. I agree, African nations do not play as smart, but they also don't have the resources to train as well as the USA. Shameful that my team hasn't learned that, but A WIN IS A WIN. Ya'll won last night. I am not denying that at all. I gave credit for a smart win. Everyone knows the US isn't skilled... they're SMART.

tigermission1, I get it... 's allright... I deserve this sh*t anyway... so... you just made that up... and SamFisher had a pathetic translation? I thought you had that Hugo Sanchez quote from somewhere... never mind.

As others have said, I thought the first half was weak while the second much was much better for both teams. The Mexicans had a number of chanches that they did not convert on that could have at least tied it up. The Mexicans have nobody to blame but themselves on that first goal, their marking in the box was pathetic and inexcusable. There is no way Conrad should have been that open.

As for the Americans' play, Rolfe was awful and had no business being on the field, especially after the half. As a Dynamo season ticket holder and huge fan I am confident that I have seen almost every game Ricardo Clark played in the last year and I am pretty sure that was the worst game I have seen him play. He did not work well in the middle with Mastroeni b/c they both play basically the same position. That alignment probably will have to be changed in the future.

Overall, I can't complain with the result though, USA wins again!! :)

WOW! ROFL! What caused him to erupt like that?  :D

    EDIT: nevermind....

Denny Green is just slightly upset after letting the Bears come back from a 20 point deficit to lose the game when the Bears didn't even score a single offensive touchdown

Ha. Really funny. I get it now. Really funny, man... I forgot about Denny... what a nutcase.

ESTO of MEXICO qutoes the Ref:
Chilean born and now Canadian citizen ref Mauricio Navarro, who without intent started the play of the second U.S. goal when the ball bounced off a pass that Pavel Pardo shot towards Pineda, spoke about the play and said he was ashamed for the rarity. "I feel bad for the involuntary pass [i gave] to Donovan. I tried to place myself close to the play, Pavel hit the ball badly and I guided it for Landon to score. This tarnishes my job. I think I was able to control an otherwise wild game, but I feel bad for the goal in which I intervened."

    :D He's a good guy.

And HUGO SANCHEZ talking about the frustration behind "playing well but not finishing, and letting the U.S. do well in their few chances" :
HUGO WOULD HAVE TITLED THE HEADER in ESTO THIS WAY:
IN an interview to Televisa, Javier Alarcón asked Hugo Sanchez.
-If it was up to you to write the header in ESTO, in Thursday's edition, what header would you write?
Hugo looked to the sky, touched his chin and said:
Frustrating. When your opponent doesn't dominate you, it is frustrating to lose".

Sorry, dudes... I need this for my therapy.

    Good start for the 'Gooch...'

    COMMENT ON THIS STORY

THE Anfield takeover by USA businessmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks made last week one of the most important in Liverpool’s history.

But on Saturday it was one of their countrymen who played a decisive role in shaping the remainder of the Reds’ season.

Oguchi Onyewu has the build of an All-American hero and would not look out of place on a basketball court or in the Superbowl.

But the man known as ‘Gooch’ can also defend and his commanding display helped snuff out any title hopes Rafa Benitez may have had.

His home debut for Newcastle was hugely encouraging and he made an instant impact with the St James’ Park crowd.

The 24-year-old giant looks like the sort of no-nonsense, uncompromising defender Toon have needed for some time.

But, more importantly, he came out on top in his duel with the Geordies’ public enemy No 1 Craig Bellamy.

If the Toon Army approved of that, he could soon earn cult status when they hear how Onyewu put the mouthy Welshman in his place.

The on-loan Standard Liege defender said: “My size and strength are big assets and I don’t think Bellamy liked that too much being half my size.

“He never shuts up. When you come across players like him, you’ve just got to laugh at them.

“I just told him to keep on talking and we would keep on playing. There was a moment when he was complaining I elbowed him in the head.

“So I just responded ‘look at where your head is, I can’t help it if you’re so short you only come up to my elbow.’ He just smiled and said ‘you’ve got a point there’.”

Onyewu and the Toon defence were given a real test by Bellamy in the first half.

But they stuck to their task and the threat was nothing like as potent after the break as the home side edged it.

Onyewu added: “Bellamy is a handful, he’s very quick and tries to get into the heads of defenders with his talk.

“From his history I know he’s a very good player but, all in all, we handled him well.”

Bellamy was booed every time he touched the ball as he made his first trip to St James’ since his controversial exit two years ago.

In terrible conditions he stroked the visitors into the lead but must have been kicking himself for not scoring a first-half hat-trick.

And their failures in front of goal came back to haunt them as Liverpool lost after taking the lead for the first time under Benitez.

This defeat — which leaves the Reds 10 points behind second-placed Chelsea — must have hurt Bellamy.

His strike partner Dirk Kuyt said: “Craig is fine but he was desperate to win this match.

“He scored a great goal and played well but the only thing he wanted to do is beat Newcastle and we didn’t so, like the rest of us, he’s a bit upset.

“Two weeks ago we were looking at catching Chelsea but, looking at the table, now that will be very difficult.”

Certainly they cannot afford to be so wasteful in front of goal in their next game — Barcelona in the Champions League.

They now have 10 days to prepare and are heading off for a week of warm-weather training in Portugal.

Kuyt added: “If we create that many chances against Barcelona we will win it because normally we take our chances.”

Mark Halsey gave the game the go-ahead despite appalling conditions and it contributed to an entertaining afternoon.

OBA THE MOON ... Martins equalises for Toon

Bellamy capitalised on a sixth-minute Steve Harper error to put the Reds ahead but the keeper made amends by keeping out Bolo Zenden.

Jose Reina’s gaffe presented Oba Martins with an open goal to pull the Toon level before the half-hour mark.

However Liverpool finished the half strongly with Bellamy seeing an effort cleared off the line by Titus Bramble and another hit the bar.

Toon survived and got their reward when Steven Taylor was fouled by John Arne Riise and Nobby Solano converted the penalty.

Roeder had special praise for Celestine Babayaro, who wanted to play the day after the death of his younger brother.

And as a former centre half himself, he also likes what he has seen of Onyewu.

The manager said: “You’ve seen Gooch’s style of play. He’s got 11 games to prove he’s worth a long-term contract. But he’s really hungry and I like his attitude.”

Nice read, but I believe it would have gone well on its own, as it didn't have something directly related to the beati... I mean, to last week's game.
