[soccer] MLS team to be called Houston 1836

    the 49ers are named after people really, not just a date. i think i already said this somewhere...........oh yeah in my original post.

    well im glad theres a soccer team in houston, but the name still sucks.

    Yeah, yeah, I know. It's no big deal. But when McNair was letting folks come up with team names, I tried like hell to come up with good names.

    The others were

    "Houston Steers" (nobody wanted to be associated with a castrated bull)

    "Houston Crude" (nobody liked a name without an "s" on the end.

    "Houston Battlers" - no real comments on this one. I guess it was too generic.

    and "Houston 36ers" - I got the most feedback from this one because it was original, and had a real history behind it; much moreso than the 49ers.

    I guess more and more people caught on to the idea, but I was the first to suggest it. :p

    It's not like anyone complaining about the name is ever going to go watch a game anyway. I like the name just fine.
