Canada definitely got screwed there IMO if the play was actually in time. They didnt announce the 4 minutes of stoppage play until the 91st minute so I was wondering if they screwed something up with the time. Either way, they were still playing and the referee must have been singing "Screw Canada!"
Onyewu passed that ball back and should have been ON SIDE. Even the early pass before onyewu got it was ON SIDE. They announce the "stoppage" or "extra" time at any time after the complete 90 minutes of the game, and it doesn't matter at what time they announce it, the total of 4 minutes is added to the end, not to when they call it. I hope that explains it well... but still, Canada got robbed with that goal. VAMOS, MEXICO!
Thats exactly what I thought which is where the confusion is. That goal was "scored" at 94:23, and the ref did not blow the whistle for the game to be over until 95:01. So if there was only 4:00 of stoppage time, then why did they play a full minute beyond 94:00?
It is an estimate of time left, the Ref on the field will usually wait until the play has become nuetral or the winning team is controlling the ball to blow the whistle. DD
yeah I understand that and thats the way it seems it has always been, but that wasn't the case here. I think the US was in control around 4:00 and they also had it at 4:30 and on and it wasn't blown. The fact that it went all the way to 95:00 is the oddity. The announcer even said the ref will have questions to answer regarding the last offsides call as well as why they were still even playing so I am not the only one that thought something was off there.
RocketManJosh, what announcer said that stuff about the ref answering questions later? FIFA or the CONCACAF are not going to question the ref about anything. Usually, and for goodness sake, commentators should not say anything about the ref for AFTER the game and shouldn't speculate anything about the ref. Whatever happens after the game isn't any of the commentators' business. It's time for us to start our friendly wagers and predictions on the FINAL game. You guys from the U.S. and A. have the upper hand.
And even then it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is when the REF BLOWS HIS WHISTLE. Only then is it official. Canada got robbed. BIG TIME. If Keller is goalkeeper for the final, give the trophy to Mexico. He's a bigger jinx than T-Mac and Flip Saunders combined.
