That was a really good game from the US, the frontline of Beasley/Dempsey/Donovan really worked well together, and Ching and Twellman did better than I thought they would. We've now scored 7 goals and given up 0 in this tournament.

    WOW.

Mexico is still the only squad that has won two Gold Cups without conceding a single goal. The “Tri” achieved this in 1996 and 2003 editions.

I wonder what the entire MEXICO sentiment will be if this happens.

The United States will get HONDURAS. If Honduras plays the way they played Mexico, be careful, Estados Unidos.

Excellent 1st round by our boys. They were clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the group. There is no reason that they shouldn't win this tournament.

I am becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Clint Dempsey everytime I see him play. His confidence on the ball is unlike any US player I've seen. Yes, there is Donovan and there was Reyna and Ramos and Harkes. But none of them has or had the balls to be as creative on the ball under pressure and do it with a purpose. He is only going to get better in England.

Fox 26 ran a story about a Cuban team member defecting today. Any truth to that?

Probably, Cuba loses a few players every time they play in the Gold Cup, I'm surprised they still let them participate.

Yes, if they finish in first or second place in their group they will play here on Sunday.

    WOW, that's classy.

I would never go to Rockets' or Texans' games to cheer AGAINST anyone... or to be an ass to any opposing team fans, but... this should be interesting... will you get
    a) beer poured on your head by Mexican fans?
    b) pushed down the steps by Mexican fans?
    c) told that you're being an *ss by Mexican fans?
    or
    d) told that you're being an *ss by all other fans?

... please stay tuned tonight... we'll see you on the news tomorrow morning. :)

That would be a pretty classles response by Mexican fans.

But, that's no surprise, since they like to pee into bags and subsequently throw it at American players

    Is the game sold out?

Mr. Clutch, Its easy to talk sh!! on this board but I would advise you not to go there with big balls. I dont want to hear about anyone getting hurt.

As much as I dislike Mexico I want them to win tonight. If they lose there's a chance they get eliminated and I don't want them to be eliminated by anybody other than the US. And also, I'd rather have the chance to see them here again Sunday, the team may be filled with cheap players out to hurt people, but a game with them in it would probably be more entertaining than any of the other options.

I am going to be like you, have "MoBalls" and cheer for the team I want regardless of crazy fans.

I'm not going to be an ass, I just want Mexico to lose because they refuse to shake hands with our guys after every match. Not to mention that Mexico is a bigger obstacle to winning the Gold Cup.

come on, swoly. it's a rivalry. a particularly nasty one due in large part to the crappy, childish way the Mexican team has responded to the US's dominance of them.

i would root against that mexican team, too.

Just because only one incident was bad enough doesn't mean that it doesn't happen every time they play. Even Swoly will tell you that Mexico has been nothing but classless the past few times they've played. Did you see the Mexican keeper the last time they played take a swipe at Eddie Johnson after the decisive goal was scored? Yes, there is a reason that the Mexican fans and team should not like Landon Donovan. However, the Mexican team proves time and time again that they do not respect the US team, even though we are dominating the series through this decade.

I want a Mexico US final. I want the US to beat them...again.

leroy420, 100% correct. It's embarrassing and they're making everyone think all of us MEXICANS are like that in a stereotype of only a frustrated team. We're not all like that. I agree, they're classless and Oswaldo Sanchez should not be on the team after that stunt (see Mex. vs. U.S. thread).
I know the U.S. vs. Mexico is a rivalry, but the PANAMá vs. MéXICO game has nothing to do with this, and to cheer AGAINST MEX when you don't even like PANAMA's team? C'mon, man. How far do you go? It's juvenile. It reminds me of John McClain wearing the "I hate n*gg*rs" sign in the middle of Harlem...

Mr. Clutch, I am thinking the answer will be C... but I know that after seeing so many Mexicans in the crowd, you won't cheer "AGAINST" Mexico... you will cheer "FOR" Panamá...

Like MoBalls said, I don't want to see Mr. Clutch getting hurt either. :(

    swoly --

do you cheer for the mavs when they play teams other than the rockets?

do you cheer for the titans ever?

do you find yourself rooting against the cardinals, no matter who they're playing?

this is the nature of sports fandom. it creates teams you root for and teams you root against.

it's why you hear red sox fans say, "my favorite team is the red sox and whoever is playing the yankees."

don't pretend like that's anything new....or that you don't do it, too, with your teams.

like seeing the cowboys get beat?
