And if you ignore MLS like most of the country hopefully it will go away too. Otherwise we will be subjected to more second rate soccer. :(

Why is that a good thing? Do you not think that it's good for the sport if the US is relevant and if the MLS becomes a power league?

DrL was right. There is no point arguing with a troll.

There are plenty of power leagues already, if the US could produce players who were good enough to play in them it would be fine and dandy, but mostly we don't.

Anyway - no I don't think it would be any better for hte sport if the US got magically got good at it - why would you assume that? THe US already has lots of sporting entertainment - so does global football.

It doesn't really need us, nor do we need it. A lot of AYSO nazis don't like to acknowledge that but it's true.

it seems like when USA and Mexico play each other, USA brings their A game. I'm just glad Mexico didnt get beat 4-0 in the world cup by some czchecs.

I just happy we continue to PWN MEX on our turf. Actually over all this millenium.

What are we, 10-2-1 against them?

Brilliant post man. Said everything i was thinking.

Also, the players may not get millions from intnl appearances but they get thousands of dollars each game they play for their country when most soccer fans would represent their country for free on the intn'l level.

I agree with SamFisher about Landon Donovan... he couldn't cut it in Europe. He had to come back. Look at all the Mexican players and Claudio Reyna and Kasey Keller in Europe... how come Landon couldn't thrive? What else did he need? Spoiled United Statesian. Got homesick and had to return. Waa-waa.
This is all true. Your turf... where we are dumb enough to come in and play so often that we get beat. It's like our team is enjoying losing to you all now. WTF. I ain't going to blame the ref on plays where we should come in untouched and not having to rely on a freakin' close call. I am going to say Gooch got twisted like a pretzel on the Nery Castillo play, and that was probably the only highlight Mexico had all day. Overall, it's the same story. U.S. scores, they lay back, they counterattack, and we got no one to stop LD, who is more aerodynamic.

Awesome game. Mexico played brilliantly. The US played even better.
It seems to me, Mexican players had great skills but the physical play of the US throttled them up. Fantastic stop by Howard. Donovan played a great game.
It's sad when there were more Mexico's supporters than the US's in US soil.
It was also true for the semi-final games. The stand was more than half empty for the US game but full for Mexico.

I havent seen so many unhappy Hispanics since the Houston Zoo closed. :)

Good game, should have been a whistle in front of the goal for Mexico. US really dont have a good team, so Mexico should feel really bad.

What is the problem with this anyway? If he enjoys playing in the US for MLS then thats his perogative. He tried it there and didn't like it for whatever reason, whether it be lack of playing time (deserved or not) or whatever. If he enjoys playing in the greatest country in the world then that is his choice. Just because its not what you would do doesn't make it wrong.

I can certainly see why V-Span wants to go back to Greece and play there. Its his home and to him its probably the greatest country in the world and he enjoys being and playing there.

What does Mexican or any other players staying in Europe have to do with LD coming back to America? Does that make them better than him?

Don't be upset because LD pwns Mexico.

Living in San Diego ... it was really a lot of fun wearing my USA soccer jersey around all day yesterday :)

I don't see the problem with him wanting to stay in the USA to play. Why not play where you want to / feel comfortable? We all know he can play, look at what he's done against your team the last few meetings.

Oh, and LD kicks ass. So fast.

MEX played their best game of the tourney and still couldn't beat the US. Both teams had a lousy tournament till the final game.

Here's to the COPA....now that this pointless trophy is ours.

I'm as diehard a U.S. Mens National fan as they come. But LD deserves a lot of criticism for not trying to give Europe more of a chance. He's wasting his talent here, well maybe not wasting, but it feels like it. Europe would really raise his game. He cannot play Mexico every game. How soon people forget that he was almost invisible in last years WC.

I understand he had a problem in Germany. OK. Go to England, go to Fulham that way you'll have plenty of friends to play with. You won't feel so lonely like in Germany. But his International game needs to be raised. He cannot play Mexico every game.

What kind of logic is this?
Since there are other good leagues, we shouldn't also try to have one?
Heck, with that kind of thinking, human would still live in a cave.

There's a Taj Mahal in India. It's very nice looking, I've seen it. Accordingly I don't see the need to build another one here. It would seam cheap and tawdry (e.g., Real Salt Lake)

PS - the US can try to have a top league it wants but it's been decades and it's nowhere even close and nver has been, eventually reality has to set in. The demand for american professional soccer is simply not here and never has been despite all the "fastest growing/most played sport" propaganda that we always here. it has been the fastest growing sport for decades yet it remains firmly planted as a professional sports also ran, as is the US team for the most part. It's going to take a herculean effort for football to knock american football off its perch (which is what it woud take to make the US a first class soccer powerhouse) and I see almost nobody knocking off the NFL, which seems to be ever-more prosperous in spite of itself.

I can watch EPL pretty much every weekend here - and I can tell you that there is no way the US will ever replicate the game day atmosphere and skill level on display in a typical EPL match, so I think trying to do is a waste. It's fine if people want to watch it, I mean there are many minor league baseball fans out there. I wonder what the actual finances of the league look like. I aways thought they were subsiidized by US's share of FIFA moneys.

It's pathetic - other american players are able to play in Europe with no problems. Beasley will be playing in his 3rd different country in three years this fall w/Rangers and he's not a whiny little baby. Not to mention the handful of americans who are able to cope w/life in the EPL (despite the complexities of the language barrier) without much trouble like McBride, Freidel, Howard, etc.

I like watching the EPL, La Liga and depending on the team the Bundesliga. I don't want the MLS to be like the EPL, La Liga or God forbid Serie A. The thing I want the MLS to do is give American players a chance to play here and possibly later overseas. That helps our national team which in turns helps our standing abroad which will come back and help the league.

Have you ever watched Serie A? The Italian League. It's unwatchable and it's boring. But guess what? The English have won only one WC while Italy has four. How about Brasil? A couple af years ago the top teams had to go to court to figure out who was the champion and most of their best players leave for europe anyway.

If the state of MLS is the same as that of basketball in Europe then fine, I can live with that. It doesn't make it any better than something else, it just makes it DIFFERENT!!!!
