Leverkusen is a second rate German club, despite being a G-14 club? Oh, the things I learn on ClutchFans! EE UU
First off, Bayer leverkusen at the time weren't a second rate german club. they were a regular participant in the cl. Donovan didnt fail, his main problem is mental toughness and he didnt have it there. Put donovans skill w/ beasleys mindset u would have one of the baddest players in world football. Also, i KNOW most americans don't care about soccer, i'm saying put this game on a majore ENGLISH Language network because its more than the game. The rivalry i feel transcends the pitch.
That chick on the univision post game show has a HUGE rack. man, i love usa, i love mexico. soccer is awesome. (the chicks)
...so he didn't fail, he just wasn't tough enough to be successful? Sorry but that's a failure by any definition. Apparently advertisers feel otherwise, that's why FSC won the bidding. The thing I dislike about USA soccer si that it is crammed down our throats by its proponents with the reluctant acquiesence of the media. And this is coming from a soccer fan, mind you. It reminds me of the WNBA and hte way an inferior product is pushed with guilt as a marketing tool.
What a very well played match, fun to watch. Donavan is special.....he is a very good playmaker.... The USA could have easily been up 4-1 and just as easily lost it 3-1..... It was back and forth......Beasley and Ching have to be kicking themselves.....they both hit the post with a wide open net. WOW ! DD
Thats fair enough ... but when you proclaim that you don't care about US soccer, don't care who wins, and just come into a thread to tell everyone that they are wasting their time watching something you enjoy, you are a loser ... plain and simple
I should go into the Astros threads and post about how meaningless baseball is because 80%+ of the world doesn't care about it
I think Donavan didn't want to sit on the bench overseas and decided he could make a very good living over here........ It is kind of the same thing that some Euro basketball players are doing now....choosing to stay home..... DD
Well i'm excited for the US soccer squad and hopefully matches like these will draw more attention from american viewers and thus drawing more talented international players to play for the MLS teams the only downfall is money
hmmm, that's what people said 12 years ago. Still waiting. You very well could - let me know how that works out for you. Anyway it's a pretty lousy analogue.
Maybe so, but lots of people on here say Ruud is not a great forward. It's tought not to be a great goal scorer when you always a leader in goals scored no matter what league it is, and 2nd ALL time in goals scored in Champions League history. Kam, why you dissing soccer yet watching the game and posting like crazy on here? I am alittle confused. SamFisher, you said you are NOT a fan of Int'l soccer? So you only enjoy club soccer or did you mean not a fan of US Ntl soccer? I did not watch any of the games but decided to watch this one b/c it is Mexico v US. I am glad I did cause it was a great game, both teams gave it their all and both the US and Mexico have greatly improved their playing styles. Congrats USA, Mexico is becoming the US' biotch (7-0-1 in the last 8?). I am really looking forward to the Copa America b/c it loooks like most teams will be using their first team squads except for the US and Brazil.
Just listening to some spanish sportstalk, and the reactions are the same after a loss.....FIRE HUGO SANCHEZ,ahorita great game by donavan, as is always the case.
I like soccer, but I don't like it sometimes. Maybe I can walk into work and click my heels tommorow. I don't know. I do want the USA to do well in Soccer. I get Soccer may never catch on in America. I do watch most of the world cup games. Sometimes, soccer gets boring on me, kinda like the NBA does on me unfortunately, but that's what I know. And the Chicks are hot.
The same thing basically happened with 2 of my national team's players. Ali Karimi who is regarded as one of the best players in asia Went to Bayern Munich and was on the bench most of the time and eventually got some starts but didn't show the drive and desire to become something. He was used to playing in the Emirites where he was the big time star and no one could come close to touching him. On the other hand another player Ando Tamorian got picked up by another Euro club and he came in and just became the team player and wanted to learn and get better and he is slowly become a great player for them. Some players just don't have that drive to face higher competition and rather be that star in a lower league. I guess it's just a fact of life. I think with the skill set that Landan had he could have worked his way to become a starter and only getting better than he is now. I know it sucks to be on the bench but in Europe he could have been a lot more than he is hear. He is one the most skilled players to come out of USA in a long time.
I get so sick and f'ing tired of you jackasses saying, "US Soccer is jammed down our throats!" Really? When? Where? How? I crave more US Soccer news on a daily basis. I'm sitting here trying to figure out where you go or what you do to have it crammed down your throat. It was so crammed that the entire tourney was on FSC. It's not like their putting this on the 3 major networks during primetime. No one is holding a gun to your head. No soccer fan can possibly say that US Soccer is crammed down any part of your body. No one that claims themself to be a soccer fan would in any way, shape, or form compare them to the WNBA. The majority of the country may not care, but this team is clearly on the rise. I don't really know what your problem is with US Soccer, but quit giving us this bulls*** that it's force fed to you. As far as your comment about the advertising boards being in spanish...Could that possibly be because this is a region dominated by spanish speaking nations? Hmm? What did you say to all the advertising boards in the 2006 World Cup in Germany being in english? CONGRATS TO US SOCCER! GOLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2007! ON TO COPA AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
club soccer IMO destroys int'l soccer. It seems to me like the players at the elite levels care a lot more about club soccer than int'l soccer. Last years world cup seemed very short on exciting games and attractive soccer. I mean, the Argy-Mex game was good, the Ita-Aus game was good, short of that I'm hard pressed to think of a lot of entertaining matches. England-Portugal was tense, but not really well played or good. The final, for example, featured a lot of hyper-elite talent, but really the game itself was a bore, and save for the Zizou head-butting was utterly unmemorable. to Leroy: you may be the baddest man on the southside, but chil out.
I see what SamFisher is saying. it's kinda like that in the NBA. Not all the best Americans are playing in the FIBA World or Olympics.
I understand what you're saying about club vs. country. Of course they care about club soccer more...the national teams aren't paying them millions. I just don't get you're point about it being crammed down your throat. I could have taken a less defensive tone, but I am not wrong.
I'm out of town and didn't get to see the game but I'm glad we were able to beat Mexico, that's always a good feeling. And SamFisher is obviously just acting like a jackass trying to piss people off, if you just ignore trolls they'll go away.
