I've never been that impressed with Wynne. Having speed is great, but if you're constantly having to use that speed to cover deficiencies in your game then there is a problem. I'd much rather have a defender with good positioning and anticipation instead of just speed. And he can get into dangerous spots on offense but can't send in a good cross to save his life.
halfbreed, who's the only team to beat them at home? Are you saying that the U.S. was "supposed to lose" there? I don't accept that as a reason for the defense to play poorly. Don't tell me that because they have a great record at home Bocanegra decided to let Herrera dance, dribble, and shoot in the penalty area? Not only that. Can you believe the U.S. hasn't won in Costa Rica in 34 years?!?!? What, do they just give up from the get go? Anyway, I also won't take the "it was field turf" excuse for you either, United States. Those MLS players should be used to some games on Field Turf.
FieldTurf is a brand...like CocaCola. The correct term is "synthetic turf" or "artificial turf". Don't make me kick your a**.
halfbreed had it right from the get go and WITHOUT excuses like "arficial turf" or "field turf". I hope you don't bring the U.S. defense to kick my ass... I'll dance around them...
I don't think anyone is using the turf as an excuse. It was clear it had some effect on some passes, but that had nothing to do with the pathetic defense they played.
You keep talking about the US defense. Defending in footy starts from the front, Yesterday the US was piss poor defending from the forwards to the back four. I lay more of the blame for the 3 goals yesterday on the midfield. The USA's central mids -Mastroeni and Torres in the 1st half, Bradley and Kljestan in the 2nd half bore most of the responsibility for all 3 goals. Moreso than the defenders. Missed tackles, half hearted tackles and marking, that's a no-no.
I wouldn't go that far. It was one game against a fairly good team in their home stadium on a crap field. There are a fair amount of African and South American nations that have had the odd crap match on the home field of a continental rival. Recently, Argentina in Bolivia comes to mind. It's not that bad but I am not very optimistic about team USA in this summers Confed cup. Italy are showing up with a stocked team, so are Spain and for the most part Brazil. The USA will have their work cut out for them.
From the write ups it sounds like Bradley went young to get some looks at other players. We are like 0-7-2 against them at their stadium so Bradley probably figured it was a loss. No biggie, beat Hondurus Saturday and it all works out. DD
I'll take Swoly's jabs today for two reasons: 1. The US team put out a horrible effort last night. 2. It has to sting knowing you're a fan of the third best team in the region.
LOL! No, it doesn't! I don't know where you get THAT determination. I've been nothing but respectful to your team... and have never said anything detrimental... there aren't any jabs... it's constructive criticism... if it hurts so bad that someone not a fan of your team tells you what's wrong with it, so be it. You can bash Mexico as much as you want; you know I don't give a darn. Now you're aware what happens with your team when they truly play badly. Always good to divert the attention from the problem at hand. Good luck hosting Honduras, I guess, and hope that both your defense and offense show up this time... it's not at CR or against a European power house, after all...
Honduras up 1-0 in the 27th minute. What happens if USA loses this game - do we not qualify for the WC?
Top 3 qualify automatically in Concacaf, the 4th place team plays a play in game with South America's 5th place team I think. DD
But it makes me a happy man! Go El Salvador and Australia!!! (Aussies have already qualified) El Salvador probably will not stay 3rd, but as long as they dont finish last, I'll be happy!
oh man, Mexico on the verge of not even qualifying. (although I expect them to pull through in the end) Still really funny though.
