I'm from Houston and I just moved to Redondo Beach about 2 weeks. Ish was NOT COOL. I thought a plane was passing close, but when the vibrations got more intense, I realized it was a quake and ran to a doorway. Good thing it wasn't worse.
dont worry. that earthquake was the biggest one for the past 20 years or so and we get like 1 maybe 2 small earthquakes a year plus they're fun!
My sister lives in LA, my fiances Sister was in a small town where her husband works and her Aunt actually lives a few miles from the epicenter. Her aunt had a lot of stuff that broke in their house and my sis was freaked out a bit cause it was her real first earthquake since she moved to Cali.
I was at work in Redondo Beach, about 40 miles west of Chino Hills where the earthquate was centered. But I still felt pretty strong shaking. I was actually in my car going to luch (11:45), and I felt my car shaking for a good 30+ seconds. This was the worst earthquake I experience since living here in socal for the last 8 years.
My buddy out in San Diego said they felt it. He was on the phone with his wife when it hit. She said as far from the epicenter as they were, they cannot take anything closer or stronger at their apartments. They're moving to a single floor as soon as they can now. They're safe for now though.
Some good shaking where I'm located, 30 miles or so away. I was like whats going on, WHAT IS THIS?! Then I looked online and saw "Rockets Trade For Ron Artest" and then said ooooh, THAT'S what happened An article on google frontpage says there's a 99% chance California will have a quake of 6.7 or more in the next 30 years. Yikes. Anyone who says they're "fun" are just covering up the fear.
i said small earhquakes are fun not big ones i think everyone fears big ones and there hasnt been a a big one since the one in SF 100 years ago
you mean 1989? and you don't have to go back that far in LA: http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N2984942.htm Jan 17, 1994 - A magnitude 6.7 quake in Northridge, California, in the San Fernando Valley in northern Los Angeles killed 60 people, injured more than 7,000, left 20,000 homeless and damaged more than 40,000 buildings. It collapsed overpasses, closing sections of four major area freeways. Damage estimates ranged from $13 billion and $30 billion.
I lived through that one. Scared the living crap out of me. I was living in Santa Monica. The convenience store next door to my apartment building lost an entire wall. A telephone pole came down in the alley behind my apartment and missed my car by about 5 feet. Lost electricity for the entire day. I lost some stereo equipment when a bookcase came crashing down. The 1992 riot and the 1994 earthquake were what convinced me to move back to Houston. I'm very happy that I don't live in the *****hole known as Southern California any more!

the northridge quake was easily the worst for me living in so cal. My parents live about 35 miles from northridge (about 15 from yesterday's epicenter) but I remember that one vividly because not only did everything shake but it was a long quake as well it was like when is this going to stop shaking. I was sitting watching looney tunes in the morning when it hit and my mom came out of her room screaming for me to get under a doorway
