He is gonna be a restricted free agent, most likely he will get a qualifying offer which will allow he to become unrestricted next year I believe.

But what would you like to come of this?

Should the Rockets allow Yao to walk?

Should Yao sing a long term contract?

I personally think the Yao era is over, if houston wants a dominant center we need to get Roy Hibbert and lock him in the gym with Carrol Dawson and Hakeem.

Hill, Bud, and 14th pick for hibbert? And Yao should go to Miami so he can contend. His era is over.

i would hope that a CBA will be resolved soon so the Rockets know exactly what they can do with Yao in terms of maybe signing him to a new small contract or possibly even engage in a S&T

i think they will come to a handshake agreement where yao doesn't sign a new deal because he won't be able to play next year anyway. however, he probably won't sign with anyone else because of that, so the rockets will still allow him to rehab in their facilities and pay for everything as if he was still their player.

if at some point he is ready to return they can sign him to a contract then. until then, he will be "retired."

Re-sign him if he can play.

Morey will be on Yao's doorstep at 12:01 a.m. the day free agency opens (after the lockout), with an incentive laden offer sheet.

    THIS^^^^^^

As long as Yao can give some reasonable facsimile of moving up and down the court, Les will pay him. The circus will stay in town while we rebuild.

Does anybody remember when you couldn't talk about Yao in a negative light on this board without getting roasted by like 15 angry "YOFs"? I mean, they'd go crazy if you phrased a complement wrong. This thread would've already been 10 pages long if this was 3 years ago.

    With that in mind...

Trade him on draft night as a massive expiring.

I just can't see Yao wearing another jersey. I hope he remains part of the Rockets.

I don't do anything until he confirms what his plans are. The lockout will very much help out the decision as it will give the Rockets plenty of time to see where Yao is before making a move.

After getting a max deal and missing major games - Yao should sign a vet minimum with the Rockets and hope for the best.

Retirement, that is what I want to happen: for his sake, for the Rocket's sake, for the sake of the fans.

The majority of our fans want and hope,
to see Yao Ming return to the Rockets
and be able to make a contribution to the team.

If he is able to play again
he will be the best Center in the NBA, once again!
If he is unable to play at that level, due to physical problems, he will retire.:p
