So I just got back from playing poker with my neighborhood group, and I play with a bunch of Spurs fans, and one Detroit fan....they were all LAUGHING at the Rockets for signing Josh Smith. All of them were thinking he would screw up our team, and the Spurs fans were completely laughing that we had Smith and Howard calling our team the mental midgets. All the Detroit guy said was, Josh Smith is stupid and the Pistons are better off without him. Ugh - I took their money in poker, but all I could think of was they might be right. Pistons now 3-0 without him. DD
FWIW, I checked out Spurs/Grizz/Mavs forums before the signing went down. Found a pretty even mix of delight at the notion Smith might wreck our locker room and fear that the Rockets would become more of a force in the WC. Also a pretty even mix of Grizz/Mavs fans who wanted no parts of him (they were still in the mix of suitors), and those who were convinced he'd put them over the top. I also watched some of the same people on Twitter who were clamoring for him on their teams declare him a cancer as soon as he signed here, the same way a lot of the Rockets fans on Twitter who were thirsty for Rondo declared him a washed up nobody who would wreck the Mavs' chemistry as soon as the trade was announced. LOL.
Haralobos Voulgaris, who made a fortune gambling on the NBA and has one of the most extensive databases, thought it was a good move.
The Pistons played Josh Smith at PF this year and benched Greg Monroe, they still kept losing. The Pistons had a positive +/- with Josh Smith off the court and a way negative +/- on the court. Goddamit, the one team that JSmoove had to land was ours, why couldn't Dallas have taken him. I don't even know this signing makes sense through Morey's methodology of playing efficient ball.
To keep him away from our rivals? Hopefully there will be no factions created on our team--such as the Howard-Smith vs. Harden-Bev-Ariza cliques. We'll see.
for 2 million dollars why wouldnt we sign josh smith and let him go to a contender or west playoff team or division team? he def shouldnt be starting though. after these trade mchale got lost and whipped out his random number generator again for his rotations. he'll put it back soon though, dont worry
I think we should give some time to see whether Smith is a cancer or a real bargain. Maybe after 10 games or more. Chemical reaction always needs some time......
I was hoping that he sucked in Detroit due to the whole team sucking and he was just coasting along. Doesn't look to be the case.
Josh Smith is a solid player and you can hear it when he speaks. He'll find a way to fit in. I'm afraid that his perimeter shot is just not very good however. Our system has always been predicated on having a plethora of dangerous shooters and neither he nor Howard are, but there can be ways of having them out there together. Unfortunately neither is a reliable post-up player. Both can be deadly in the right matchup, but if you look at our last two games, the power forwards we played against both had height on Smith. That's going to unfortunately be the case on many nights. Let's see what adjustments we make to get Smith in position to drive. I'm not sure how much that'll work with his outside shot being a bit unreliable, but it can work. Have patience guys. Smith has the right size and speed to create mismatches, and we see that with his defensive capabilities. Give the team time to get it in gear offensively. I'm still of the belief that we have a creative coaching staff and that teaching a player how to effectively shoot are both easier things to adjust to than having lesser players. Josh Smith is a great addition. No knee jerk posts are going to convince me otherwise. Only time will.
dwight putting up 13 and 5 after 2 games before putting up 6 and 9, and he's basically frozen dmo out of the offense, Harden boned the game inbetween, Josh Smith isnt the issue We lost to the Wizards by 1 point on the tail of a b2b whilst dwight was being a worthless sack of dog****, and we lost to the spurs on turnovers galore.
Josh Smith should play the TJones role for now--defend, rebound, get garbage points on putbacks, pnrs, and drives to the rim. I think the coaching staff was trying out how fast Smith can pick up the offense. They will I think simplify it a bit more to give him a taste of success. His shot is really broken, He needs a ton of work on his jumper with a shooting coach.
What did they say in the off season before he went to Detroit? Or maybe even before he was signed last week? My point is that those are typical hindsight comments. "Yea, I didn't want to date her anyway, too b****y". It's the type of thing you hear when you lose out on something. Didn't LA pull this same bit when Dwight chose Houston? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with whether Smith will be a good fit here. Just pointing out that fans will be fans will be fans.
Dmo only had one good game since Smith arrival. Dmo has had plenty of opportunities to solidify his spot on this team and he's failed miserably. This season he has solidified his spot in the rotation. Getting major minutes off the bench isn't a bad thing ether sir.
