How would you like to own J.Howard for the next three years with a 7/year $105 Million Dollar contract paying $15 Million++ for the next three years? Dang,I would shoot myself first! ------------------
Funny, but I almost deliberately put a disclaimer at the bottom of that post explicitly stating that if anyone mentioned Juwan Howards name, than he should be struck from the thread. Maybe I should've gone with my gut. ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
Popeye,,, Put down the "used rake" and slowly back away from the bargaining table. The real question I have for you as my favored GM of cc.net: How much is Walt worth? What you thought of him in September, or January? Do you, at all, change your negotiating stance on Walt now that he is rising to his career numbers once again; showing us he can play a poor mans Reggie Miller role? Do you shop him? or Do you cleverly wait for offers? Do you use him in package deals by saying "If you want KT or CM, you must take Walt as well", or do you now have the confidence to demand straight-up trades like Walt for Fortson; Walt for a #1; Walt for sign-n-trades like Lewis who teams might lose otherwise?
DarkHorse, "Now all we need is someone who makes a ridiculous amount of money to match up with those contracts... Any ideas?" I didn't see a disclaimer about Ostertag either. If you added up enough expendable player contracts to equal something like Garnett or Shaq wages, the Twolves and Lakers respectively still would not return the Rockets' calls. The key point is that if you can trade a package of what you consider to be overpaid players, all that can be expected is overpaid players in return. The only exception would be a sign-n-trade scenario were one team has very limited options. Mango ------------------ The Serious Police are watching Donate Blood
Walt should only be traded if he is the dealbreaker in a huge deal. Why? because he has only been here a year, and he already has two fan clubs! Quite an accomplishment. With him there, no doubt the voters will get out in full force to pass a stadium to sit in seats to watch the Wizzer play. To trade Walt is to trade the future of the Rockets franchise. -WaltWizFanClub
His career/contract will be winding down by the time a new building is finished. Mango ------------------ The Serious Police are watching Donate Blood
What about: Cato and Rogers for Abdur Rahim? ------------------ "The bigger they are, the worse they smell."
Heh...why not just Cato and Walt for Rahim if we're talking like that? UNLOAD THE CONTRACTS AT ALL COSTS!!! ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
The bad thing is the Wizard has shot himself into a trading possibility! With him playing the way his playing more teams are interested and word is around the Rockets orginization is that the Wizard will be traded for a big free agent! ------------------ -Junkyard Dog "Maybe we need an enema" - Othella Harrington
I'm not unconditionally opposed to trading Walt, but we *need* to get a talented, replacement jump shooter. Sorry, Matt Bullard doesn't work. Anyone have ideas on who a replacement could be? How about Pedrag Stojakavic (sp)? Anyone know what it would take to get him, or someone like him? ------------------
The Wizards have plenty of players making ridiculous money, but that is not the way to do it or the place to shop. Jordan would probably take a bunch of decent players that would have enough salary money to equal J Howard's salary. It would then be much easier to repackage those players in other deals than to sit there and hope that another rube will come along to make a better offer for Howard. Criscokidd, Oh, I get it. It is the same situation as Boston had with Larry Bird and the new Fleet Center building. Mango ------------------ The Serious Police are watching Donate Blood
