Er...Rudy Gay is shooting 40.8%, those are like...Westbrook numbers. You see how much complaint we have here for Lin's 43.8%? At Rudy Gay's contract I wouldn't take him for cap space alone even if it came with an unprotected 1st from Phoenix.
No way you're serious... I like Parsons, but are you seriously saying a relatively unproven second year man is better than one of the most clutch players in NBA history?
I like our team now, and don't see why we can't get better with experience. I doubt we'll be getting any superstars via trade, and would rather not take on aging or injured vets for any short-term benefit. "Pieces" who might be available: Austin Daye (stretch 4, could back up Parsons at the 3), JJ Redick (D + D are so smoking hot, though, JJ might be moot). My hunch is DM will wait for free agency to bust a move.
Just yesterday Feigan said to not expect anything major. Just a small move like taking on a contract(IE Rip Hamilton) for a draft pick. He seems to believe that their pocket of assets was cleared out from the Harden trade and they are at least the Summer away from making another major trade. Seems logical, but I have no doubt that they aren't calling around looking for a bargain deal to get somone like Smith at the deadline for peanuts.
That's really all Morey can do without gutting some key pieces on the team, namely the starting 5. And with capspace in the offseason, sometimes it would be best to be prudent. I can see some 2nd round picks being exchanged.
I think it will be somebody we had no clue about. I feel like we are in a great position right now. We don't HAVE to make a move at the deadline. We are not in desperation mode. This young team is playing well and growing together. I think T Jones will eventually be a player in this league (I hope for us). I also like D Mo but if he had to be moved for a better SF or PF along with Pat Pat I wouldn't mind. Right now we shouldn't get too attached to many of the young guys. They will be required in most packages for another foundation piece. I think other players around the league are noticing us and would be willing to come join this uptempo style of play. Harden has shown he is a willing passer and will share the load. That is always attractive to other players thinking about the Rockets.
i love this squad, but if someone has to go for another star i think parsons is a very likely candidate to move along with other players/picks. i would hate to see it and hope it doesnt happen because i think the only spot we need improvement is at the 4, but a team trading with us is going to want a good piece.and the way im looking at it is, that asik will not go unless a legit center(hard to find) replaces him, lin will not go for his potential/marketability, and harden is harden. which leaves me to believe parsons would be the first choice out of our core players that would be dealt.
In some ways, he's correct...Parsons makes less than 900k this season. Im guessing, if the Rockets are trading for a very good player, that player would be making in the 8 million dollar range. Since you need salaries to match up, it makes it harder to trade Parsons. If Parsons was making 5-6 million, then you just throw Patterson in the mix and you have matching salaries and a completed trade. With Parsons current deal, we would need Parson, Patterson, plus ~5 million dollars of additional salary to make something work. At that point, you're throwing in a lot of players to make things match.
I get what you are saying, but I like to think about what that player would be like in our system. I think in Memphis the lane is often clogged because they play a slower tempo with Z-bo and Gasol, which forces him to shoot a lot of outside shots. Last year with Z-Bo out and them playing a faster pace, he shot a better percentage. Having a consistent 18, 5, and 3 wing player on our team would be very nice to have (with Parson coming off the bench behind him). If memphis is not asking too much for him that is...
He's looking at many many players who are undervalued, underutilized, not used correctly, or just plain overlooked. He's carefully evaluating on many levels, psychological, emotional, and skill-set wise how they would mesh with our team. He's also looking at players that are highly valued and evaluating if they would work with our established pieces. Further he's evaluating how other teams are evaluating players, so as to find the biggest disparity between perceived value and actual value. Problematically though actual value may be relative to the situation that player plays in (see Dragic/Scola), so theres gotta be a big study of how to create the right environment for each player. And of course all of this is studied within the financials of cap space, and potential problems with getting too many players on inexpensive contracts so that we'd have to let some go for almost nothing. geez, figure it out already and make the one right move, Morey. Lets go!
Paul millsap or Demarcus cousins... I have to believe that parsons would have to be traded. Who else could we get value for?
I still don't have any ideas why people want to move Parsons. Rockets are a rebuilding team not a Win now team. So I say let Parson stay and let him developed into an All-Star.
No, because the Rockets are under the cap right now. They don't have to match salaries; they could trade Parsons straight up for a $8m player.
I think DM might target Granger because he only has 2 years left on his contract, so Morey might still be able to have good cap space come that offseason if necessary. I see DM as a chess player trying to lock in some value and improve the team while retain flexibility. Taking on a year and a half of Granger does that. I;m not blown away by him as a player... clearly a VERY solid SF, don't get me wrong. Capable scorer, ok rebounder, ok defender.... just not blown away. But for his production he isn't SUPER expensive. The question is, could you acquire him without giving up any of Lin, Harden, Parsons, Asik.... partly by taking on salary? Question 2 is his injury prognosis... latest I head was mid-February at the earliest. So such a move would not help this season much. In a pipe dream type scenario, the Rockets keep Parsons/Asik in a Granger trade, and then use on or both of them in a Kevin Love trade, somewhat give-up on this season but have all eggs in the basket next season: Lin, Harden, Granger, Love, [Smith] starting 5 ... but not sure they have enough salary/cap room combined to take on $26 million in contracts (Love + Granger). I think they are $8 million under the cap, so they'd still have to match $18 million. They could probably get there, but would have to start picking up players off the streets.
