Man I'd love to get Bosh on this team. He'd fit great. Even if the Heat don't win it all this year, I don't think it's likely they'd trade away Bosh just to get under the luxury cap and shore up some other needs. Could happen though. Bosh is under contract until 2015 (just like LBJ, Wade and KLove), but he has a player option for two more years after that with a salary going up to 22 Mil. He's 28 now, 30 when he can opt out and would be 32 by the time his contract is up if he takes his player option. Conversely someone like Love would be only 26 in 2015 with a price tag of 16 Mill.
Once you take Harden out you have Lin, Delfino, and Douglas. All three have their moments and good games but all three are inconsistent and there is not a great or good perimeter defender in the bunch. And all three of those guys can disappear offensively on any giving night. The Rockets hardly ever get dominated by opposing team's frontcourts. It's in the backcourt is where they get lite up.
You are right about that. Jason Friedman @JasonCFriedman NBA players are, almost without exception, impressive during warmups. That said, watching D-Mo drain 3 after 3 pre-game pretty eye opening. 3:49 PM - 9 Jan 13 · Details I noticed that he doesn't follow the flight of the ball when trying to box out which is a change that he could make to improve rebounding.
This screams D. Cousins to me. Who does D. Morey have his eyes set on? Definitely Couz, getting him is another story.
Thaddeus Young vs. Paul Milsap vs. Josh Smith At the end of the day...What will Smith & Milsap command in free agency?? 13 million per year and up IMO but the production to me is not there. Thaddeus Young is a player who is making 8 million for the next two or three years and is having a better season than Josh Smith and Paul Milsap. So why pay these guys the big deals for the same production? Thaddeus Young Stats: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.sports-reference.com/wg.fcgi?css=1&site=bbr&url=%2Fplayers%2Fy%2Fyoungth01.html&div=div_per_game"></script> FG: 242 FGA: 460 FG%: .526 Thaddeus Young $8,039,130 $8,600,000 $9,160,870 $9,721,740 --- Player Option Shooting Chart: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/y/youngth01/shooting/2013/ Paul Milsap Stats: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.sports-reference.com/wg.fcgi?css=1&site=bbr&url=%2Fplayers%2Fm%2Fmillspa01.html&div=div_per_game"></script> FG: 200 FGA: 415 FG%: .482 Paul Millsap $7,200,000 --- Last year of current deal...will seek 12 million + a year Shooting Chart: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millspa01/shooting/2013/ Josh Smith Stats: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.sports-reference.com/wg.fcgi?css=1&site=bbr&url=%2Fplayers%2Fs%2Fsmithjo03.html&div=div_per_game"></script> FG: 225 FGA: 506 FG%: .445 Shooting Chart: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithjo03/shooting/2013/ Josh Smith $13,200,000 ---last year of deal wiil seek 15 million + a year At 24 Thaddeus Young has not hit his ceiling yet and I think he can come to Houston and be a difference maker in the near future and bringing him in will not break the bank. So we can get a good backup pg slash 6 man (Jennings) Lin Harden Parsons Young (trade for) Asik Bench: Jennings (trade for or sign in free agenccy) Delfino Morris Smith I love Douglas game and I was backing him when everyone was hating (check my post) but he is expiring and I do not think Morey will get him a new deal. So bring in Young and our team salary next year will be is 40 million (i think) so we can sign Jennings and maybe a better backup SF if we do not exercise Delfino option...What you guys thinknof bringing in Thaddeus Young by the trade deadline?
what the all guys think of Marreese Speights as a small acquisition. he could space the floor at the center position as well. he's also go get it guy good on the alley. I remember when he was in Philly used to kill a switch his jumper.
I wonder how difficult it would be for Morey to pry Brandan Wright from Dallas. Young, would be an excellent backup center on expiring deal. Would work well in run and gun game. I would like to see him as a roll man, but just haven't seen him set picks which could be an issue. Also suffers from strong case of reboundaphobia.
Morey would love to have Paul Millsap and his expiring contract but Utah could possibly ask for a lot in return. More than what Morey would be willing to give, at least. I don't expect any significant trades for our team come deadline unless some GM offers Morey a deal he can't refuse. I expect to see a minor trade to add some depth or quality to our bench to push for that playoff spot.
The reality is nobody is going to be 'keen' to pay over $12M/yr for Millsap, but they can't be sure someone else won't. So if you're not going to pay Millsap a max salary that he's entitled to (not worth, just entitled), then there's no benefit to getting his bird rights or trading away assets to get him. That's why, despite postulating that Millsap could be Morey's top free agent target, I never felt Morey would trade for him. Because Morey's not going to pay him the max. And if he's not going to pay the max, he's definitely not giving up assets to get him and risk losing him to a bidding war he cannot win. I don't know whether the Jazz can trade Millsap for good assets back. He may just end up being a free agent. I'd like the Rockets to sign him to a contract that Rogower first mentioned ... a 4yr $40M deal with the first year front-loaded at $14M, then 3 years at $8.5M. That'll give us room to keep Parsons when he'll at least be worth $5M to $7M a year.
One thing to note is that a lot of teams will have cap room this offseason. It's predicted to be a player's market. And the bidding can go quite high. Unless Morey feels like he's getting a star, I really won't be surrpised if he sits this year out. 2014 FA is looking okay. Plus it will be one year closer to Love's player option. Here's a list I compiled a while back for anyone who care. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=7426263 There are certainly some guys the Rockets make a play for. Or perhaps by then, save up enough assets to make a huge push for Love.
He also doesn't go to the spot of where the ball is going to be before it caroms, which is what actual rebounders do. It's more of an "oh I guess this is mine what do you know" situation. I don't know how teachable the former skill is, too. Some players (Rodman, Love) have a knack for it, some don't.
Millsap is better rebounder than Young. Young has not been shooting threes lately. Patterson is close enough in rebounding to just keep him over additional cost of Young.
