How does Chicago benefit from it? They already have a young QB with questionmarks. Carr is not any kind of upgrade from Grossman. And there's no way in hell they are giving up their #1 WR.
That would be a good move for us. Each step up in the draft allows us to trade down for more value. At least if we didn't get any other offer that would be acceptable.
While I doubt the Texans could get a good player from the Bears, I think the Bears would be a good place for Carr. Carr would give the Bears options at QB.
I definitely get the feeling the Texans are letting Carr and his agent find the right place for him. I guess he has to rework his contract no matter where he goes, so they are letting him choose. Which is nice and should be a good selling point to future players
Exchanging 1st rounders (10 for 9) with Miami for Carr? Where do I sign up?!?! Realistically, teams will deny deny deny that they want Carr but will be swarming like vultures if we release him. So I think just making that deal with the Dolphins is, unfortunately, the best we can muster. Is it better than getting an additional pick (4th rounder at best)? In one sense, no. But right now, I rather move up than to wait and have to see the Texans NOT doing anything with Carr and NOT getting anything in return.
how can you say that carr is not an upgrade over grossman? chicago would be a totally ideal place for carr. they need a game manager which is what carr can be. carr generally doesn't make stupid decisions and he does have some upside over the traditional "game manager" QBs. grossman on the other hand is the biggest minus QB that a team could have. he is like a version of rafer alston except even more nuclear reactive when he does bad.
On the surface, trading him for the chance to move up only 1 spot doesn't sound like much, but that 1 move could really pay off on draft day if there is someone on the board at 9 that another team really wants. We could trade down and get more picks.
Its hard to say, but I hope we get some value...I think we will, but it depends on how much Carr is hyped (yes, I said it) as he has more potential then the rest of bunch remaining...
The Bears aren't going to pay $6MM a year for a possible starter, likely backup at QB. If they could get him cheap as a free agent, sure. But Carr is being paid starter's money if he's traded.
Wow.. I left Miami off the poll, too. It looks very feasible that he'll be in South Beach. Imagine that, Carr chasing Marino's team records for years on end, with playoff wins against the Texans... No don't imagine that...
They went to the Superbowl with Grossman. He's had about 20 starts in his NFL career and still has a lot of potential upside. Through about 8 games last year, he was a league MVP candidate. Carr has never had a winning season in his career. He's a complete questionmark. If I'm Chicago, there's no way in hell I'm going to bench Grossman for Carr. I'd prefer Brian Griese. No, it's what he MIGHT be able to be. He made quite a few terrible decisions on the Texans last year. Throwing into triple coverage, etc. He certainly was the latter half of last season. He was phenomenal the first half. I believe he was 2nd to Peyton Manning in 100+ QB rating games last year. His problem is that he waffled between terrible and great. And Chicago doesn't want a game manager QB. If they wanted that, they'd start Brian Griese, who's far more proven and cheaper than Carr. I think they believe they want a more dynamic offense, which is why they had Grossman throwing bombs to Berrian all last year. Especially with their defense collapsing late last year.
It's obvious that the locals are blinded by their up close view of Carr. He ain't that bad y'all... He will prove it elsewhere... and Shaub just better be able to run, and take a sack like a man. What? You read his stats that Dom "the all knowing" was citing in that article didn't you? Those are Marino-esque numbers right there! I don't care who you are.
You're calling other people blinded, while claiming a guy who has had no success in the league will be chasing Dan Marino's records? What exactly has Carr shown different from Joey Harrington or Tim Couch?
the QB i saw down the stretch last season was not a good QB. i've never seen a QB have such a difficult time holding on to the ball...he was guaranteed to just trip and fall down at least once a game...he threw into quadruple coverage...he threw 4 INT's against the Pats...he threw for -5 yards against Oakland...it SEEMED TO ME that kubiak lost faith in him and started reigning in his play-calling because of it. at some point, those things have to be remotely associated with the QB himself, and not pawned off on teammates. i think that at best, he's a game manager. but nowhere near the costs, financial and otherwise, associated with keeping him here. apparently the texans felt that way, too.
For one... he's never quit while he's had plenty of reason to totally shut down.. (like 240+, 76 of which came in season 1 - Couch never would have survived that abuse, nor Joey boy) For two... Dom said so. It's partially an "incitement" joke... seriously. But think about.... what if it really was the line all these long hard 5 seasons? Ooops! Then Shaub better be a beast of a quick healer. Pro Bowler and SB champ lineman Mark Schlerith (sp) stated on ESPN that he thinks Carr will be fine elsewhere, it's the best thing for him, but if the Texans don't get that line fixed (which Carr never has had the luxury of -And Mark oughtta know) then it doesn't matter who they put back there... So anyway... the national media sees it for what it is, but most locals only see "L's" and thus are blinded by the suckitude.
He's been released. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4656573.html Officially out: Carr released by Texans By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle After weeks of trying to get a draft choice for quarterback David Carr, the Texans have decided to release the five-year veteran, making him an unrestricted free agent who can sign with any team in the league. The Texans also are releasing running back Domanick Williams (formerly Davis), their former leading rusher who has been unable to play because of a knee injury. An announcement is expected later today.
http://blogs.charlotte.com/panthers/2007/03/carr_taking_uni.html Carr taking unique free agency approach PHOENIX – A few observations and leftover items at the conclusion of the NFL’s annual meeting: Indications out of David Carr’s camp is that the quarterback is considering a unique approach to free agency. There are potential starting jobs in Oakland, Cleveland and Detroit and it’s possible Carr could end up in any of those cities. The money would likely be pretty good. But here’s where Carr’s thinking has changed after talking to a lot of people he trusts in the last few days. It’s not just about the money or the chance to be an immediate starter. Carr, who spent five years getting beat up in Houston, is starting to think the best thing for his career might be to go to a good team, spend some time as the backup and wait for his shot. That’s why Carolina and Seattle could be attractive situations and the interest from both teams isn’t just cursory. The Panthers and Seahawks are very interested in Carr. And don’t let all the earlier talk about Carolina’s salary cap woes fool you. There’s now more than enough room for the Panthers to make a strong offer to Carr when he visits early next week. As of Thursday, the Panthers have about $9.5 million in cap space.
