its pretty much because like half of his points are from free throws, which you don't see in the highlight reel
Great game by Martin. Especially late when his ball fake wasn't working and he then reset and pressed the defense to get a foul. Don't think anyone here will debate his scoring potential, but in the 4th quarter, in the playoffs, someone stated it earlier that the refs hold the whistle and let the teams play. We don't need Martin to dominate the ball, but still waiting for him to show the same aggressiveness in the 4th quarter he does in the first.. every game. Calling out Brooks for not passing to him is BS. And he's not always going to get a clear screen, especially in the playoffs, and I'd rather have him shoot free throws than make the extra pass every time. He's a 2 guard, being a bit selfish is part of his job. And he has the skills to back it up.
It "feels" quite and "seems" that it's too easy for him because of how efficient Martin is. His efficiency is defined by 1) free points at the free throw and 2) he never tries to force anything. IMO, he's the perfect complimentary player. There's no doubt that Martin could easily take over games, ala 'Melo and Monta, but he chooses not to. Part of that is because this isn't his team and he has decided to defer to Brooks and the Rockets. He's here to help them as opposed to them there to help him. I love it. Rather than be an egotistical superstar, who get their points on 25+ attempts, Martin does almost as much with half the amount. On the other hand, that can be a bad thing at times. In the Celtics game, where the team was struggling, I really wish Martin would of tried to take over the game. He only took 12 shots. If the team is struggling, it's okay to be a little selfish and egotistical man! As Kobe Bryant said to Brandon Roy, to be a superstar that's what you have to do.
He gets his shots by moving well off the ball. That's why you don't see him initiating the offense or making drives.
It's quiet because he doesn't dunk on people's heads, bang his own chest, and follow it up by some stupid little dance.
I think the two words we should compare here are quiet and clutch. The fact is the player who made the clutch play is the player you will hear about. But as far as Martin goes i have to agree about his "quiet" points in the sense that when i watched the knicks game i would have guessed he scored like 15-18 points when in reality he scored 28. When you get a closer look at the boxscore you realize that he went 9-16 fg and also 8-8 from the freethrow line His ability to get to the line is a great asset to this team.
Someone should make a Kevin Martin mixtape. It'll consist of him hitting a bunch of freethrows
Kevin Martin - is he an empty stats guy? To be honest I am not impressed with him at all, he gets his points and he gets them efficiently. But they are the quietest points I've ever seen. He doesn't seem to do anything unless a specific play is run for him, he looks lost on the court a lot of times, he's not what I would call active on the offensive end. I don't think he is a good fit with brooks, it seems like brooks plays with the ball 80% of the time and martin gets a turn 20% of the time. When Lowry is on the court, he is more active, since I think more plays are run for him. I have no problems with him on the ball, but he doesn't do anything to help the TEAM run the offense, that's why our offensive struggles will continue, when things are going badly, he doesn't really do anything to stem the tide. Also his defense is really bad, I can' decide who's worse him or brooks but it's really bad.
seemed fined when they were both scoring 50 sumn a game...now all of a sudden he doesnt fit with brooks? Maybe because they lost and brooks got shut down by rose?
He doesn't really get assists or rebounds..... But he can score efficiently, and get to the line quite a lot
Jerk of the knee wow. He gets his points and he gets them efficiently. His defence is definitely sub-par but we knew what we were getting from him. He is a massive upgrade from Trevor as a shooting guard as he can put the ball on the floor and get to the line at a high rate. Martin and Brooks play off each other pretty well and keep in mind they havent even had the off season to mesh let alone 20 games yet.
No, got nothing to do with the win or loss, just looking at the games. The problem with both of them is that unless they are scoring they bring nothing to do the table, if you have aspirations to be a championship team, you can maybe afford to have one of those type of players in the rotation...off the bench.
Martin is really shortage of strength. Everytime when he penetrates into the rim and bumps into the big guy from opponent, he can't have his body well controlled and turns out to throw the ball. Also his way of shooting looks really wield. It's not right I would say. So far I have never been impressed by him, even when he played in Kings. Hope he will also get better!!
