I've been totally underwhelmed by Martin in the games I've seen. Both his shot selection and his shooting. Not to mention his defense, rebounding ... and that just about covers it. But maybe that's part of the stat method -- noticing that he contributes to the bottom line though your eyes are telling you otherwise.
I keep calling him Snake from G.I. Joes. The cartoon not the lame movie. I've had so many conversations on the same subject that he never looks like he has hardly any points, but when I look at the boxscore there it is. So I go with Snake the Deadly Assassin or Kevin the Pharaoh since somebody pointed out he looks like an Egyptian.
So have I. He's a ghost out there for long stretches of time, where he just has absolutely no impact on the game. He's not a go-to wing scorer that I was hoping he could become for us. In the 4th quarter, he especially seems to fade into nothingness. His defense, ughhh... we all know where he is on that front. I really hope the dynamics of his activities will change when Yao comes back.
For this year yes. I think that will change next year. I think Yao, depending on his health, will probably be our go to scorer.
this has been brought up a few times already.... There needs to be a sticky describing mrtin's game. The guy scores well within the flow of an offense. A shot here, a drive here, a nice breakaway, etc. That's why he's efficient, he takes good shots or shots he knows he can make. He's never going to be a closer or someone who can consistently carry a team with 15 straight points or 30 in a quarter. Also, i'm not sure if this is something he has consistently done in the past, but he seems to be pretty good at stopping momentum, several of his buckets come when the other team is gaining momentum and starting to make a run, yet he doesnt really force it. It's basically what we needed all along.
It depends on who can score against the double teams. Brooks struggles against being double team or if someone is physical against him. Martin tends to struggle with that as well.
Agreed, Martin really buys and plays into Adelman's offense, he's pretty much the perfect player in this system, mainly because he cuts, makes layups, and takes open shots. As long as he's not forcing anything, the team's better for it. It was on my mind as well, whenever he misses I tend to think he's playing poorly, or shooting poorly rather. But then I recall him making 2-3 quick layups a few plays before and it seems to balance out. Thing I enjoy out his game the best though is his persistence to drive into contact. When Brooks adds that to his game, if he ever chooses to... our backcourt'll be even more formidable.
I know this is completly off topic but you sooo need to change you signature. There are like 10 people that aren't on our team anymore.
i 2nd that.... the dude just dont show up in the clutch aka 4th quarter. Dunno if he's worn out or just being passive, but neither is a good sign. It's important we have a 2nd go to player in case brooks' hurt or struggling, martin just aint got no leadership or will to win seem like.
A little too quiet in the last 6 minutes of 4th quarters if you ask me. But, I am overall very pleased with what he has to offer us. I knew it was a win for us and I still believe it is a win for us.
The good thing I like about Martin is that generally when he makes his move and the percentage chance of scoring is reduced he does pass the ball. Scola and Brooks could learn from him.
