Yup. Terry is pretty much asked to be a spot up shooter anyway and he's way worse defensively than Thornton.
I would try a lineup of Harden and Thornton as the guard positions next game for a few minutes and see what happens. Hopefully Thronton can regain his shot soon
The best coach in the world isn't going to produce a championship with this team. It's the players. They're not good enough to win a championship. This is a 45-50 win team at best in the West even with the perfect coach with this current roster. We simply do not have enough shooting, rebounding, or defense to win a championship.
lawson is the answer at the 1. if bickerstaff can't tweak the offense and get harden to adjust, then just get another coach. a lot easier to switch no-name coaches than top 15 PG's.
Lawson isn't the answer because he SUCKS at defense. We need to cover up Harden's defensive limitations, not add to it by pairing him with another bad defender. Rockets defense worked last year because you mostly had plus defenders at every position besides SG.
JR nailed it on page 1. The solution at the PG spot is .... Harden. You plug in a shooting guard alongside him. Terry did it last year with some success & Bickerstaff plugged him in last night. Not that he's the long term solution .... just the type of player required. The perfect fit - Courtney Lee. Solid shooter , above average defender and can get to the rim on occasion.
That's the problem. Why is that something like that needs to be covered up. It's like it's accepted that harden is allowed to be terrible defensively. He is more than capable of playind d. But When your best player needs to be covered up defensively you won't win a championship period. Doesn't matter who you put next to him
The solution is harden accepting that he has to play Atleast respectable defense first and foremost if he seriously wants to achieve success at the highest level
Definitely not at the level of harden. Not even close. Contrary to many people's beliefs he actually gives effort on the defensive end. Big difference. How many teams run the easy back door play on harden. Probably happens almost every game. That kind of stuff is pathetic. Not to mention his fast break get of the way defense. Or the poke around half ass go for the steal defense If harden even gave the same effort as curry it would be a huge difference
honestly, the name pg or sg doesn't really matter. Beverley works with Harden because Harden is a distributor who can get others involved and is capable of running the offense. Patrick is a tough defender who can use his skills on that end to hopefully make up for some of Harden's regression with the defensive game. Patrick also (at least in the past) could knock down the open three which this team needs and also works with Harden's game. One of the two guards has to be able to run the offense, and distribute the ball plus regularly create their own shot. With Lawson and Harden on the floor we have two guys who can do that. I thought that would take some pressure off of Harden and make defenses play him more straight up to some extent. That hasn't happened so far. Patrick Beverley isn't good enough to be the starting pg on team contending for the title unless that team has a 2 guard that is also capable of getting the rest of the team involved in the offense, and create their own shot. In that case he might be able to do the job.
If we can't get Lawson to play well alongside Harden, we ain't winning **** with this current roster. Point blank.
Just like Kevin Love wasn't in Cleveland for an ENTIRE year and you're making your judgement based on 11 games during which the ENTIRE team sucked big time. Ty will fit in with us off the bench like Josh Smith did last season. We have a deep bench that he can milk - Capela, Harrell, Corey, Thornton
Steph isn't THAT bad on D and I've not seen him on the opposite side of the court on D like our beloved superstar
