Eh, Im sure its scripted to a certain degree, but its not nearly as fake as you guys make it out to be...I had a friend on the show a few years back when Heidi was looking for a job or something. They had cameras around, but he still did his thing with no intervention.

The fact that they did reshoots and storylines didn't clue you all in?

I feel for anyone that got sucked into that flaming pile of crap. Same goes for Grey's Anatomy.

Reshooting scenes doesnt necessarily make it fake.

For instance, if Im being recorded telling a story to a friend...but I stutter or sneeze in the middle of it, it would probably be better for TV if they reshoot me telling the same story, but without those hiccups. That doesnt change the reality of what is actually taking place...its just shot so that it looks prettier than it is. The story is still the same.

hahahha...the show is about as real as The Office. No cameras would follow these people around like that to the places they go. Would companies really allow people, let alone a group of random ass people, they are interviewing to bring a camera crew with them? Yea the show might have some reality to it... as in they are real life people on a "reality" show, the conversations might not be scripted but they are given topics/scenarios to talk about and do

Isnt that what reality tv is all about?

I dont get how this is any different than other reality tv shows that arent competitive games (like big brother or survivor).

If you are told to talk about something, about situations that were created not by your actions but by the actions of the creators of the show ie. girl A started dating guy A even though they have never met until shooting (for some reason I started to read about The Hills after I heard the producers admitted the show was fake on the finale and this was one of the situations that popped up, very gay of me I know).

A TRUE reality show, would be Big Brother, Survivor (as you mentioned) and shows like The Real World. That is all unscripted, and yes it is edited but what you see is "raw" footage, and not edited in the way The Hills was. The Hills editing would be like 2 people at dinner having a drama filled conversation about another person then the producer stepping in and saying "lets redo that entire conversation and put more emphasis on this and that"...that is NOT reality. The Hills "reality" is more along the lines of The Office. Haha yes I know The Office is a sitcom and is not suppose to be taken as reality but it gives a premise that it is "reality tv", of course the The Hills doesn't go to that extreme but it cannot be lumped in the reality genre of Big Brother and The Real World

Bingo. Anyone who thinks reality TV is "real" needs to talk to me about some prime "real" estate land out in Florida I want to sell.

Everything I know about the Hills comes from watching The Soup and I thought it was common knowledge that the show was fake.

Ballsy. Huge props to the producers for pulling that.

I would've loved to see the faces of the people who thought the show was real when that happened.

Must be a teenage thing or something. My wife watches this **** and I yell like a teenage girl everytime I walk by while she's watching. Annoys the crap outta her. Kinda like the shows annoy the crap outta me. It's a vicious cycle.
