    Totally agree. Most fans who promote JJ never heard about Langdon.

    If Rox picks JJ, some people need to ask them why they can't just sign Langdon out of Europe for league minimum without guaranteed contract. Remember 1st rounder has 3-year guaranteed contract.

    An inside man who is personally providing you with insider information. Hmmm...I just happened to do a little research on draftexpress. And I found your "source" to be very interesting.

    The person who started draftexpress is one Jonathan Givony. Here is a quote from a 03.11.2004 e-mail Givony sent to Tony Fryer:

    "Hi Tony,

    I work for an NBA Draft site called www.draftcity.com it is affiliated with a fairly well known site called www.realgm.com. I'm a college student at the University of Florida.

    Anyway, I am very interested in becoming a scout for the NBA one day. I was wondering if you can look at some of the scouting reports I have up and tell me what I need to work on to make that happen. I know what people on the internet like to see in scouting reports, but I'm sure that working for the NBA is quite different. Do you know anyone I could contact that might be able to instruct me on what I need to do to get my foot in the door with the right people?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan Givony"

    http://experts.about.com/q/Basketball-Instruction-1578/Writing-Scouting-Reports.htm

    Two years ago, your "inside source" was a student at the University of Florida. And he was working for draftcity. Wanna know what happened to Givony at draftcity? He publicly distributed misinformation and was dismissed from draftcity in June 2005:

    "Effective immediately, Jonathan Givony has been terminated from DraftCity.com because of statements concerning player representative Joel Bell in articles written by Mr. Givony and published on DraftCity.com on April 9, 2005 and thereafter, and Mr. Givony is no longer associated in any way with DraftCity.com.

    The statements in the articles, we are satisfied, were false and improperly based upon allegations by a source or sources who refused to be identified. We regret that DraftCity.com did not observe here a basic principle of journalism by verifying the accuracy of these statements. ... "

    http://www.draftcity.com/

    As recently as 3 years ago, Givony provided us with a self-description:

    "Jonathan (AKA Apocalypse Now) is a lazy bum. The only difference between him and the average hobo on the street is that he likes psy-trance. He lives in Gainesville, FL and is weeding his way through college right now. ..."

    http://www.psyreviews.com/reviews/jan102003.htm

    Givony must have a really unique line of inside sources. How unfortunate for him Mo Taylor was traded.

    How do you have a "point"? I'm "bashing" Redick when I point out the very obvious? He's too short and a duplication of Luther Head without the defense or transition game. JJ Redick is not a Rocket. He is fair game for any rational critique we can provide.

    As far as you "preparing" us...on the one in 100,000 chance the Rockets draft Redick, he'll get criticized. And rightfully so. It's a freakin' Top 10 pick. If we use it for a one-dimensional role player, we are dumber than a bag of doorknobs.

    As far as me being exemplary of a point you don't have, here's a sweetheart of a deal for you.

    Go into to all of the "Fire JVG", "Trade TMac", "Why do we never pass the ball to Yao", "Ewing is worthless" or "Juwan and/or Stro suck" threads. I'll donate $10 to the tipjar for every negative player or coach post you can attribute to me. Good luck.

    The absolute only thing you'll find is me setting the record straight on Mike James. And I only do that when the one-sided piling on of the pro-Alston group gets unbearably illogical.

    I definitely give you props for going through all of that, but I'm not sure it was worth the time...

    Again, he has provided me with inside tips that have turned true. Did the weed help him find out about Daryl Morey a week earlier than this forum finding out about it? He told me about Richie Frahm and the Bogans deal too. There was more where he provided me useful information, but I won't go into that. This is *not* Hoopsworld's Bill Ingram who makes up stuff every day.

    Finding about his history was completely unnecessary... I have a friend that has had a bad past too and he has turned it around. I love him for that. Your post makes me feel sympathy for this guy now.

    I think one thing going for us is the hiring of Daryl Morey. The past drafts, Celtics have drafted players with nice potential. This could be good for Carney and Brewer.

    On offense, with the help of Yao and some screens from others, J.J would be a fine canon.
    On defence, all the opponents pointing at him and shouted "Fire in the hole!"

    I actually don't agree with this, with all due respect. I've been as opposed to drafting Redick as anyone else...check the other threads to make sure. But to say that Redick wouldn't be a 2nd round pick if he played for West Virginia is going too far. Redick, in my opinion, would make a great late 1st round, early 2nd round pick. If he was in the draft last year and the Rockets picked him instead of Luther Head (who I liked and still do), I'd be happy with it.

    The guy is a better shooter than Gansey. Quicker release, better shooting off picks, etc. Let's not hate on Redick just to make a point.

    I have to defend Gansey a little bit here (not that you were attacking him). The stats show that Gansey is a comparable shooter to Reddick but I will conceed your two points here that Reddick has a quicker release and may or may not shoot better off of screens because of it. I think where you have to separate the two is in what else they can do. It is my opionion that Gansey will contribute more, he was the best perimeter defender on a good team (top of a 1-3-1 zone), he was the leading rebounder on his team, he was the leader of his team. One thing that really concerns me about Reddick is making the switch from the focal point of an offense to being just a piece of the offense. Reddick is not going to be coming off of 3-4 screens a play just to get open for us. Gansey on the other hand scored in the flow of an offense that was not designed just for him and will have no problem fitting as a role player.

    Funny thing about all this debating is that I don't think we should draft either one of them. The only reason I enter these debates at all is to show that you can get what Reddick has to offer later in the draft. So I guess I agree with most of what you said

    To say that JJ is the similar shooter as Gansey is like saying Yao is another Ric Smits clone. That's totally ridiculous.

    To say that you have seen either one of them play more than twice is rediculous. :rolleyes:

    Field Goal Percentage:Gansey is obviously better.
    Reddick = 47%
    Gansey = 55%

    Free throw Percentage:Reddick is obviously better.
    Reddick = 86.3%
    Gansey = 68.6%

    3 point Percentage:Gansey is slightly better.
    Reddick = 42.1%
    Gansey = 42.9%

    Points per shot(efficiency):Identical.
    Reddick = 1.5
    Gansey = 1.5

    Would you like me to do a statistcal comparison of Yao and Smits to show you how ridiculous your comparison is?

    Jesus Christ! Based on pure numbers alone, I would argue that Brandon Rush is a better shooter than both Redick and Gansey.

    Rush:
    Field goal percentage: 47.4%
    3 point percentage: 47.2% (50-106)
    FT shooting: 77.1%

    The bottomline is, JJ is one of the best pure shooters in the NCAA history. He sucks in the tourney, but that does not change the fact that he has knocked down numerous closely guarded key treys for Duke in the regular seasons. He has been the offense for Duke in the last two seasons and he still managed to average 28ppg this season while being the focus point of the other teams' defense.

    FYI

    The normal means for judging whether someone is a good shooter or not is usually to count the NUMBER of times they shoot and it goes in verses the NUMBER of times they shoot and it doesn't.

    Brandon Rush is a good shooter.... comparable to Reddick and Gansey without having played as much for comparison.

    People criticizing JJ as a draft pick because he won't be able to get his shot off are missing the point imo. No, the Rockets won't be running a 3-4 screen for him because they won't have to. If he is playing on the same court as Yao Ming and TMac, he will be wide open. (providing we aren't still playing Ryan Bowen)

    Gansey may be more well rounded, but if you are a 2nd round draft pick that is well-rounded with a good shot but not a quick release, you probably will never see the court in the NBA. 2nd-round picks need to be great at something, not well-rounded.

    I'll be happy with JJ if the Rockets draft him because he fits a need - there is no team in the NBA that needs shooters more than the Rockets. If we don't draft him, then hopefully we got someone who fits our needs even better (or we won the lottery).

    I would be dissapointed if we took Reddick...he is an amazing shooter but he needs to come around picks to shoot and can't create his own shot. We saw that in the tournament when he tried to drive against LSU. Any kind of pressure and he is not able to get what he wants.

    He will be good for a team that needs only a spot up shoot coming off of the bench becuase i honestly think he will be a bench player in the NBA. Or play more of a Steve Kerr type of role.

    The rockets need shooting, but they don't need guys who can only shoot, even at shooting guard. That = bench player.

    There isn't a single starting sg in the nba that is as one dimensional as him.

    With a lotto pick I want a guy that at least has the potential to be a starter in the league. We already got our backup sg with Head last year.

    There is no cardinal rule that 2nd rounders can't be well rounded or have potential for something more than a specialist. And Gansey doesn't have a quick release?

    Interesting attempt to divert the discussion towards other players on a Redick thread...okay, I'll play along. :)

    I watched Richard Roby in Dallas at the Big 12 tournament against A&M. He had a bad game that day. My impression of him based on that and a couple of other games I saw on TV is that he's a streaky outside shooter. He's seemed to be pretty average athletically. Lastly, he seemed to disappear for CU during big games against big-time opponents. I think he needs to go back to school, get stronger, and develop more of an agressive streak. I wouldn't take him with the 2nd round pick if a guy like Hassan Adams is available, that's for sure.

    Maurice Ager, I haven't seen as much of. I watched the MSU game against Gonzage at the Maui Invitational. Ager was unconscious in that game, matching Adam Morrison shot for shot down the stretch. Ager is an above average athlete, but then he's undersized at 6'4" for a SG. The Rockets would really do well to not draft another undersized SG, so I'm not in love with Ager, either, for the 2nd round.

    That's not what I said, in case you're referring to me. I simply said that Gansey's release is not as quick as Redick's (who, imo, has one of the quickest releases in the country...second to a guy like Pittsnogle).

    Everyone says that JJ Reddick isnt going to be a star in this league. With that said, this draft is not looking so deep and with our low position in the lottery we wouldnt even be able to get a guaranteed star with this pick anyway. Secondly, why are we looking for another star when we already have 2 on our team? We need clutch role players in the mold of Steve Kerr and John Paxson. If he can have that type of career with the Rox and hit his 3's when yao dishes out of the post I am more than happy with that.

    I was fortunate enough to have a center court row 23 seat at last years NCAA Regionals in Austin. Michigan State's Maurice Ager covered Redick and made him look horrendous. Ager backed that performance up 2 nights later when MSU eliminated Kentucky. The 6'4" Ager is one of the reasons I don't take Redick seriously.

    In spite of returning almost their entire Final Four team, Michigan State had severe chemistry issues this past season and bombed out of this years' tournament losing to George Mason. (IIRC, Ager had 27 points in the loss).

    In one short sentence, Maurice Ager is a 1" shorter version of Cuttino Mobley but with longer arms. Ager also has Steve Francis' hops....46" vertical. I'd be ecstatic if the Rockets traded down for a vet + Ager.
