Moneyball : Drafting a catcher for offense :: Moreyball : Drafting a center for offense.

Ergo you're probably not getting bang for your buck in taking a center anywhere in the draft except the top 2-3 spots. Unfortunately this prudence in picking also means that we will never draft a center.

I don't count Thabeet, Hill, and T-will as actual players, but more as expiring contracts.

Dragic is tall enough to play and defend the pg, and sg, so that makes Lee expendable. I say we trade Lee + Parsons for Asik. Then trade Scola, Bud, and Hill (exp. contract) for Granger.

It may be a long shot, but if Indy wants to rid themselves of Granger and develop Paul George while adding a great vet still in his prime in Scola, and an offensive threat off the bench for cheap with Bud, it would be a good move for both teams.

This gives us room to possibly sign Yao and Chuck back if we choose to do so as well, while still giving us potentially around 10 mil for the 2012 free agency if we don't exercise the team options of Thabeet, T-will, and Flynn.

Our lineup would look like this
Lowry/ Dragic/ Flynn (team option possibly exercised)
    Martin/ Dragic/ T-will (exp. contract)
    Granger/ Morris
    Patterson/ Chuck?/ Motiejunas
    Asik/ Yao?/ Thabeet (exp. contract)

And this prudence has led us to missing how many franchise centers over the past 4 years?

Oddly enough, we passed on exactly one center that turned out to be not a scrub, DeAndre Jordan. Yet we passed on him because we picked center, Dorsey, over him. That has to do with the Rockets missing on a player, not a position.

It's not like the Rockets keep passing on Dwight Howards or even Brook Lopezs in order to draft the likes of Aaron Brooks and PPats.

Don't be surprised if we just release some players. We have some ability to release players on their rookie contracts (I think we do it by October for the following season; I'm too tired to look it up). We can also release Jonny Flynn, if we do it quickly.

Your problem is you're thinking of them as forwards; think of them as assets instead. Excited yet?

    What about Marc Gasol?

I agree with you though, people complain about what we didn't get, when the reality is what they want didn't exist. Like all the people that complain about Chandler Parson and say we should have picked Jeremy Tyler.... you know the guy that sucked in the asian league. I agree, Jeremy Tyler is a center sized guy but he sucks and I'm pretty sure that Hasheem Thabeet would own him.

    D Morey:

"Terrance can play the 1..2..3, Chandler can play the 3 or 4, Marcus can play 4-3, Monte can play 4-5...We like the versatility that others see as duplication."

I like having forwards on this team.

Better than having 8 backwards on this team.

We're heading in the right direction now!

Because he would be the best player on this team? Or even the closest thing to a Tier 1 star we will ever have without tanking and drafting in the 1-3 range..

Just because you might not like his game or his as a person doesn't mean he has no impact on the court. He put up damn good numbers "WITH" Lebron and D'wade on the same team.

Scola's age, recent injury, & bad contract = one fewer forward at some point.

Lowry will be better than him nest season (if there is one). Bosh is way over paid for his production. Taking him and his terrible contract will keep us in NBA Purgatory.

well my problem with Morey isn't drafting, its a crapshoot and so i get that..

My issue you is we keep Trading alll these "assets" for more "assets"… Battier for Thabeet, AB for Dragic and #23 pick…. when are we gonna flip all these assets for ACTUAL PRODUCTION on the NBA level?? i dont give a S*** if TWILL averaged a triple double in the D-League, i want NBA producing players not freaking scrubs that are NBADL all stars…

if we do nothing over the summer and stand pat then i bet some of you Morey apologists will stop…

Marc Gasol was Morey's first year, right? I can't remember exactly. I think Morey that year didn't have all his stuff in place, and probably just focused on college kids. I think it was 2009 when he actually took an euro-stash in Llul.

So I still would consider DeAndre Jordan the only center Morey truly missed. And even then, Jordan's future is still quite up to debate. He can easily go Kelvin Cato and just stop caring after a big contract.

I thin the way Morey is setting it up, is that he can part with any player on the Roster while not creating major holes....

In the past, when a trade happened, holes were created and it catapulted the team to oblivion. Maloney being the point guard for Hakeem, Drexler, and Barkely was horrible. Mobley being the point guard for Hakeem, Barkley, and Pippen was horrible.

    Hey,
PG has Lowrey, Dragic, and Flyyn
    SG has Martin, Lee,
SF has Budinger, Morris, T-Will, Parson
    PF has Scola, Patterson, Hill
C has Hayes, Yao, Donatus, Thabeet

Okay there are some scrubs there, but they do have potential... However it seems every position is at least 2 deep.... Yeah I know that is 16 players, but Parson being a 2nd rounder will have to prove he's good enough to force a move, if a trade doesn't fall into Morey's lap prior to that (maybe Yao doesn't make it back to health either)

No untouchables on this team... None...
