It finally happened to me. I thought working in public accounting I was immune to it but I was laid off for "economic reasons" along with other people. This really blows.
Sucks man. Sorry to hear it. I've been laid off before but I saw it coming. Keep your head up. Crank up Big Tymers' Still Fly and you'll be ok.
Thanks everyone for the positive energy by the way. I should probably use this free time to pass the cpa exam.
Sorry to hear...should find a decent amount of jobs out there for you. Just curious Which firm had layoffs? Was it only staff all way up to manager? Best of luck
I was laid off 9 months ago....Still waiting on that "light" at the end of the tunnel. Professional job.....years of experience. I thought I had a job 3 months ago.......until the job I spent 3 months working toward with interview and such....disappeared because the person ABOVE the people doing the hiring decided he want to reorganized "his way". I don't know anymore............thought about jumping off a roof.
I'm not sure about who all was laid off. It was all very sudden. I do know this other girl for let go right after me. I believe she had just come back from maternity leave last week. I think I'll take a week to figure out if I want to continue in public. I'll post the name of the firm in a rep comment.
What sucks the most is we had reviews last week and mine were pretty good. I had made significant improvement from the fall and my career advisor kept emphasizing how all of my managers had nothing but good things to say about me. Of course none of them knew I was being let go early. These layoffs, from what I understand, were partner decisions.
I feel like things are getting better. My company went from laying people off to people just leaving for other jobs
That's rough man. Keep your head up. Maybe they did you a favor and you'll find something you'll enjoy more
Get a bunch of credit cards before your work records change, especially for the last minute out-of-town flights to family office interviews. Also, try to contact third-party headhunters and recruiters first; partly because Houston is swarming with them, and also because they can't submit your resume to a company if you've already applied there online. I don't know if you have your CPA or just 30+ hours of accounting, either way you have an edge over other applicants for credit analyst/commercial lending roles and product control/P&L/SEC Reporting at oil and gas firms if you have trouble getting back in to audit or whatever.
