So this is why Gortat didn't sign with Houston

I sorta liked Gortat but the fact that he wouldn't really be effective playing along side Yao is sort of a killer when it comes to deciding how much money he's worth. He would have been a nice back-up, but I would not have been happy with him as the full-time starter, especially in the worst case scenario where Yao never plays again. Plus theres still a chance Orlando matches the offer if they believe they can still move him for something before the deadline.

He probably doesn't want to admit that he wanted the bigger paycheck.

I like said in the other thread: I guess nobody told him how Dallas is the place free agent centers go to die.

    Signed,

    Dumpier and Diop

P.S. As far as his reasoning goes, Dallas can him have. It does sound like he chickened out. He could have started the entire season here and perhaps even beyond that. Dumpier, for all his faults and MVP's Dallas passed on to get him, is still a serviceable player. Where is the guarantee from the Dallas camp that he'll start? Pssh, oh well. Don't even bother answering that.

Translation: I'm afraid to fail, so I'd rather take the easy way out and go somewhere where little is expected of me. If I set the bar low, it won't look as bad when I screw it up.

What a wuss. He belongs in Dallas with the rest of the wusses.

Funny you mention that, because with Yao out, Shaq being old, and Camby being fragile, he could be closer to being the second-best center than we think.

Top 10 this season if he can produce efficiently with the added minutes seems reasonable...

He says he would feel pressure from being a "Yao replacement" for a season, but doesn't mind being 2nd fiddle on the Magic? Didn't he start when Howard was suspended anyway? Something better will come along for the Rockets anyway. good luck to him dealing with Cuban.

I don't see Gortat signing. Once Yao's back then it's like he's goign to be burried at the bench. I didn't want to say this but rockets need to tank this year and sign better players next year! I don't want to sign if we don't compete!!!

There are times when Morey will regret being too cheap. I believe that Gortat is one player who should not have gotten away and the Rockets will live to regret it . :p

Didnt want the expectations but wanted an oppurtunity with greater responsibility? And he played alright under Dwight Howard? Sounds a money move and he didnt want Yao to TAKE his minutes away.

Not just no but HELL NO! I realize that you are in Houston and don't get to watch Dampier and all but unless you have a burning desire to see the African-American version of Shawn Bradley, I suggest you abandon this line of thought immediately.

Wouldn't it be funny if Tmac gets healthy and makes Gortat his new Shane Bradley with a poster? I'd pay to see that.

With Hedo not in Orlando the Magic should have the money to match the Mavs.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Dampier has an upside, but I believe he is serviceable. But Tmac for Dampier + who? We better get a lot more for Tmac than that.
